Biography

Heartlocke Heartlocke is a dragon full of style and eccentricity, brilliant of mind yet so excessively conceited that often his inflated ego tends to get in the way of his extravagant plottings. Albeit charismatic, his guile will only go so far before the unfortunate traveller abruptly finds themselves at swordpoint. You will find not a single ounce of sympathy within him, besides for himself, of course. If he's not robbing some poor soul blind, he's moping around his hideout in self pity, dredging up the past in his thoughts and bitterly reminiscing what could have been. Yet you will not catch him without a crooked grin, fangs flashing white from the shadows. With eyes and a tongue as sharp as his, it's a wonder why he even needs a blade in the first place. Sometimes his words alone are venomous enough to scare the vipers that lurk in the underbrush. Before becoming a cut-throat, he was once the son of the illustrious Duke of Erebos, destined to inherit all of his father's riches. However, due to a terribly unfortunate incident, he had his title stripped from him and was banished from his home, humiliated with nothing but his cloak, his rapier and the pouch of gold at his side. Within the first day, he lost it all to bandits. Within the next week... he'd taken it back and established his own territory on the outskirts the Foxfire Bramble. When he tells the tale to those clever enough to pique his interest, he often leaves out the part that it wasn't single-handedly, given the troop of excitable and curious imps that have now taken to him as their leader, and follow him wherever he goes. The Count and his Circus have grown notorious for the misfortune they bring, and he revels in it, gleefully dancing and singing to his unlucky victims with skill and flair, his movements as graceful as you would expect from a master thief who has long evaded the wrath of many angry kings and vengeful queens. |
On some nights, he may force the gold out of your pockets; on others, he will challenge you to a game of cards and befuddle you with trickery, or perhaps, simply swindle you with honeyed words. There's not a dragon he's crossed yet to outmatch him, for he knows his part of the woods like the back of his hand. With him, the smoke and mirrors is seemingly endless. Although seasoned in swordsmanship, he will favour underhanded stratagems and manoeuvre effortlessly out of the way with the use of shadow and illusion. Run, he will nock a poisoned arrow in his bow. Fight, he will set his loyal imps upon you. Cry? Well, he'll laugh, of course. He'll cackle all the way from dusk until dawn, and he will take everything you own, and disappear into the night, the sound of his laughter ringing ominously in your ears. So beware, when you see the dim glow of a warm flame through the brambles, for it may not be the friendly face you are seeking. Even when you emerge safely on the other side of the woodland, you might dig around in your pockets to find that some things didn't make it out with you... come to think of it... who said you were safe just yet? |
