Mahal
The Mage

arcanevs1.png You are suddenly struck with how late it really is when your stomach gives a dragon-like growl of hunger, signaling you had missed dinner. After retrieving the location of the kitchen from a passing dragon, you follow the well lit halls into the back of the lair, where the cables are thicker and the walls still unfinished. Right before you enter the large room with delicious smells wafting from the doors, an equally large imperial steps out, a book in his paws. He steps back, looking up with concern.
"My appologies, I didn't notice you there," He tucks his book away, beautiful gold cuffs glinting in the light, "My name is Mahal, a mage of the Galestorm Flyers. And you?"

Origins
arcanev2.png Born one of the twins of Ferdinand and Nubia, Mahal and his brother were the third set of offspring to be born to their family. Mahal, though not as studious as his brother, diligently trains himself everyday to defend against the dark magic hidden in the shadows. Not long after the siblings' coronation, Mahal felt a calling greater than himself, a calling that would lead him beyond the safety and familiar comforts of home. He took notice of the dilemma facing his family, the shrinking lair space, and scarce pickings during hunts. He could not bring himself to stay in his family where the young ate last. Mahal was dutifully loyal to his brother, but felt that he himself could not grow and learn in their family's desperation…
At the next family meeting, on the sixth day of his life, Mahal came forward to his parents to tell him he was leaving. His parents, though heartbroken, understood his feelings. His mother wept, for one of her only two children was leaving her sight, possibly forever. Mahal reassured her that he would hope to teach many students one day about the wonders of magic, and its role in Sorneith. What no one realized as Mahal packed his things and took flight away from his family's palace….was that he intentionally did not say goodbye to his older twin brother, Taj.
While it tore Mahal's heart in two to leave Taj without a word and to dig up his roots with his family, he kept going in hopes of allowing his clan to recover from starvation. He considered going to the plentiful wilds of the Viridian Labyrinth or staying in the magic rich lands of the Starfall Isles, but the Gladekeeper's lands were too overgrown for his tastes and the Isles... they held memories too painful to face at the time. Eventually he settled on simply crossing the continent, hearing word of the Galestorm Flyers along the way. Though their words were vague as to why, the Lightning Flight clan was on the search for a further two mages. Deciding he had nothing to lose at the moment, Mahal traveled across the lands to the Shifting Expanse, finding that the Flyers seemed to have conquered the harsh sands and had plentiful food for him along with a job to keep him occupied. He was assigned to fighting the Dark Queen, who he soon learned was a Shade Touched mage whose magic was corrupted and dangerous, though she was contained by magical means for the time being. As a light mage, Mahal's particular skills were of high value to them, allowing him to study the dangerous dragon, reinforce her containment runes, and work alongside Serezha and Nyrin in hopes of destroying her. His first few days were somewhat chaotic, as he had arrived only days before a festival for the clan, though he quickly found the soothing company of Dew--the clan's stuttering cook--was a good distraction from the productions around him, and would quickly fall for the soft-spoken Tundra. Now, he spends his days studying in the kitchen while his mate putters around to cook.

Personality
Mahal has always been characterized as a kind-hearted and selfless dragon, though still retains a sense of pride. His love for his clan and family is what drove him to leave his home in the first place, wanting to save them from starvation even if he had to start anew to do so. He values actions much more than words, but also understands the importance of language to all of dragon kind and strives to always learn something new within that area, whether it be an entirely new language or simply a new way to use it. Having been raised as a high class dragon, Mahal maintains a regal speech pattern and movements, though he tries his best not to seem so high and mighty that he is unapproachable. Even if he is not the one to make a mistake, Mahal is quick to apologize and attempt to fix errors, though will sometimes end up making things quite worse than originally. When Mahal originally left his clan, he was hoping to find somewhere where he could throw himself into his studies, improve his life, and make a difference in the world that would stand the test of time even if his name was to be forgotten in the sands. Though he found no grand gesture to the world, but rather plays a small role in the battle against a Shade Remnant, Mahal has found a particular dragon who makes a difference to him, and he hopes he can make a difference to as well. When he first met Dew, there was a chemistry that went beyond this lifetime. As he worked alongside the stuttering cook, Mahal found the gentle nature, soft fur, and skills paws of the tundra a comfort in the unfamiliar land. Though he was not a fast learner in any way shape or form, Mahal tried his best to make himself useful, slowly falling for Dew as they had further conversations, regardless of Dew's stuttering speech. He hopes to help Dew overcome his fear of speech, though he knows he will never be able to--or want to--get rid of his stutter. Mahal, always the one for learning, hopes that Dew and Mahal will be able to teach each other skills they previous lacked, building each other up at the same time.
