Some dragons can predict the future in the lines of each others' palms. Others read the tea leaves that settle at the bottom of their cups in grim shapes. There are card readers and star readers and readers who stare deep into glass, hoping for a glimpse of the future. But Calder is none of these. He is gifted with sight, but sight of the stream.

It is a curious sight, directly affected by the body of water he peers into. Only small streams and gentle creeks will produce even the slightest hint of a vision, and the water must be unsullied for better results. The best streams, though, are the ones that snake through the Southern Icefields, slithering down between mountain peaks, half-choked with shattered sheets of ice as they crawl towards the turning seas. For whatever reason, Calder sees more in the fractures between ice floes, more in the freezing waters, than anywhere else in Sornieth. Perhaps the chill gives him focus, or maybe he can channel his sight better while closer to his birthplace. It could be something else entirely, too, something he cannot foresee even though he has tried. Ultimately, though, the why does not matter as much as the fact that Calder can see.

And oh, he has seen so much.
