────────────────────────────────────── ticking, scratching, sobbing. there is little in this forest for anyone other than i, myself, the one and only- the cry of the storm, the rage of the wind, the silence of the snow. the trees here are long since eroded, crying- nay, sobbing- for someone to lend them vitality, even what was once evergreen struggling to maintain a sense of stability. i am a burden. i sit as i cause havoc, my tempest of horror eating at every little animal that crosses my path. i cannot help it, i cannot stop it, i cannot control it. every one of my movements scares away whatever unfortunate creature strays into my domain, the ringing of chains and the hissing of ice always alerting them to the monster that resides in this death row of a woodland. those who brave the winds and rain and thunders meet a peculiar fate at the talons of mine, forever to be my company, forever to wallow in the misery of my existence. i am a burden. the screeching of her claws against the frozen grass should've alerted me to her presence- however, i was but a hatchling, and couldn't register the sound as something i did not provoke. even when i saw her naive face, the fur adorning her precious jawline, her innocent white ices that perfectly matched mine. i felt guilty. i feared this, i feared seeing her. i did not want to ruin her. she was everything i was not. i would not say it was love- rather admiration, jealousy- i could not fathom the process of affection on a romantic level. even so, i wanted her safe. i would not call this love. as her oddly delicate talons tried to unsheathe my timeworn cowl, i couldn't help but shudder. i am a burden. frozen eyes met mine. i was afraid for the first time in centuries. the pearl who had borne the winds of my domain, the fragile being with wings of bravery and a grin of stoicism- the one who stood in front of me, almost proud of her accomplishments. i am a burden. nay, i was a burden. ▹ ─────────────────────────────────────△ | . |
