Rita was born as the same egg as her sister, Mary. (No not that Mary, the other one.) Despite the fact that double-yolked eggs rarely hatch, the sisters' birth was largely uneventful. As a result, however, the two share a telepathic link strong enough for them to communicate across three flight territories. People wonder why Square Toe gets movie star gossip days before anywhere else in the Shifting Expanse. Rita grows a corn field a little way out of Salt Fork that she operates as more of a hobby than a livelihood. In the autumn, she makes it into a maze and minor tourist attraction. Turns out tourists love to get lost! She also officiates weddings, and for a small fee the wedding can be in the corn maze. This is a lot of fun*, especially when the best man gets lost but he has the rings so everyone has to split up and look for him and when he finally makes it to the center half the guests, three bridesmaids, and the groom are nowhere to be found… *she charges by the hour |

When the circus comes to town, it tends to be in the winter when the corn is dead. This suits both Rita and Bill just fine: he gets to pitch his big top on the empty field and Rita gets free tickets to the show. |

Boyfriend has a habit of taking dragons into the corn maze, but leaving alone. Rita very carefully ignores this, as well as any patches of too-freshly dug earth. He pays for both tickets and the corn grows very well. |
