Biography
S U N S E T
Before the clan, Sunset was a wanderer, a storyteller spinning tales and given spare change as his earnings. It wasn't a particularly profitable occupation, and some might say it wasn't really an occupation at all, but it was a lovely thing to see children's smiles. He would've said it was like brilliant sunshine on a peaceful meadow if he was feeling poetic, but the truth was that it was the reason he did it in the first place. Before, his old clan had been not the kindest of places, and most children there had already borne adult's grim faces before their bodies could even catch up. Sunset, himself, was always smiling, and trying to get the others to smile too. For all his efforts, they should've called him Sunrise, flashing those teeth everywhere. So when he discovered the magic of stories, and how they brought out the child in his siblings and his friends, he set out to do that for all the other hatchlings in need of a good cheering up. Then there was Pearl. She was a guardian, not having finished her Search but determined to start a clan, and he couldn't help but feel some admiration for that. He still wandered a bit, but not so far away from the start of the lair that he could not come back and help a few times a day. He knew his small change were mere pittances, but for the start of something new, he wanted to contribute something. |
When the clan finally got its feet on the ground, Pearl and Sunset had the relatively (un)fun duty of acting as Patriarch and Matriarch. At first, Pearl took the brute of the work, while Sunset acted more as a nest caretaker than a leader, continuing to spin tales that the hatchlings would treasure. But as Pearl declined and preferred guiding her dragons than tending to the daily matters, Sunset took on more and more of the responsibilities. Sunset grew to have a bit of an obsession with organization as those responsibilities piled on. Being a traveler with typically few to no belongings made the sudden increase of duties distressing, and organizing all of it made it easier for him to deal with it. He always carries a little slip of paper with him, marked with checkboxes and his scrawled writing so that he can keep track of his latest task and the ones he has already completed. Hatchlings tend to be overly curious as to what Sunset is doing, which actually helps relax just a bit more, given his love for them. He loves to talk to them about the latest doings of the day, often chatting their ears off as they do the same. While Pearl may be too old for the antics of children, Sunset will never forget what made him set off for the world in the first place. |
