Biography
Thunder's tail twitched and he slowly cracked his eyes open, the scaled lids clicking as he blinked. He raised his head from the cliff edge he had been resting on to overlook the small, primitive village in the valley below. In truth, it was larger than it looked to the massive dragon, but there was little that didn't appear small these days.
His yellowed face craned to the night sky at the first shrill whistle, and he grumbled in pleasure as the darkened expanse was ignited with a loud pop and a brilliant burst of color. He loved the human festivals, with their bright fireworks and energetic music. Thunder kneaded the grass beneath his paws and trilled again as more fireworks lit the sky. He shuffled his wings and gazed around him.
In his slumber, several humans had braved the cliffside to leave small, decorative paper lanterns around him. They were lit, burning slowly on oil soaked coils that left the flames within dancing against the patterned paper. They often came while he was deep in slumber that could last for weeks. They'd leave offerings - mostly lanterns, but occasionally livestock or candied treats - and make wishes on him. He had no power to grant them, but enjoyed the attention regardless.
When another firework lit the sky, Thunder pushed himself to his feet. He reared on his hind legs, flared his wings, and roared. His jaws parted and crackling blue lightning burst forth, shooting out into the night to explode with the other fireworks.
A loud cheer erupted from the village below as the humans shouted and banged various musical noisemakers. Thunder settled back down on the ledge and hummed in delight. He loved festivals.
