Who, who are you really?
Risen is one of the three clan leaders, in charge of security. Most members of the clan couldn't tell you much about him.Risen keeps his distance from most dragons. Even the third clan leader, Champagne, doesn't speak to, or know much about him. Risen prefers it this way. Those closest to him include Banana and their son, Jubilee. They get to see a side to him that others do not: in truth, when he's comfortable with you, he loves to joke with you, play rough, lounge around, and get belly rubs. But he isn't the kind of dragon to let himself be emotionally vulnerable with others. He's tried having relationships since he and Banana broke it off, but he's too old and bitter to let himself become vulnerable with someone else. Instead, most dragons find him off-putting and crass. He purposefully tells crude and off-color jokes to keep others at arms length, so they won't want to get close to him. It's also why, whenever guests come over to the clan, they're usually steered clear of his den, to avoid... inter-flight disputes. He's getting on in years. He used to run off for days at a time and return, with little reason (if any), but nowadays he stays close to home. He doesn't have the strength and stamina to travel like he used to. |

And where, where are you going?
Risen experienced a lot of loss in the younger years of his life. No, he doesn't want to talk about it.
Early on, Risen learned the importance of letting go: letting go of your fears; your dreams; your safety; your insecurities; and your loved ones. He found catharsis in the habits of Mirrors, constantly splitting from roving packs and joining others, never staying with one pack too long or getting to know others well.
Still, in his younger years, Risen got injured often, unable to travel due to broken limbs and deep gashes; it happened often enough that he became something resembling friends with healer shamans, which ended up saving his hide on a number of occasions. Still, he couldn't rely totally on the kindness of strangers to help him all the time, and so he thought to find a burrow he could go to when he was sick.
He found an abandoned den in the wetlands that suited him: not too close to others, so he could have some privacy, but well hidden from curious animals and dangerous predators. Here, he would visit when he needed time to heal, and wouldn't have to worry about visitors.
His first unexpected visitor was Banana, who crashed near his den in her desperate need to flee her birth clan after the death of her father. She ended up sticking around, with no where to go, and not wanting to leave the area where her father was buried. Risen left once he was healed, but found himself returning at least once a week to check in on her. He didn't mean it, but he came to care for this little Fae, and eventually, fell in love with her.
As more dragons somehow gravitated towards Banana and his den, he found himself steeped more and more into the care and politics of the place. He never really meant to settle down, but it just... happened. He still left from time to time to hunt and come back, once his wanderlust and need to hunt was satisfied.
During the old wars between Nature and Plague, he was the victim of a parasite bombing. His rotclaw was part of the original parasite that destroyed his right leg and part of his wing, and nearly killed him. The shamans removed as much of the parasite as possible, but small parts of it had to be left inside, as it was embedded deep enough inside him that total removal would kill him. What's left is benign. He actually enjoys teasing others with it, as it will lash out at anyone comes close to him.
His right arm and parts of his right wing are woodsung prosthetics. Receiving them has improved his mobility significantly, but they aren't perfect replacements; his speed and nimbleness are lower than before, so he doesn't leave to hunt much anymore. Now, he just patrols the north eastern border of the clan, serving as a harsh gatekeeper for the more dangerous parts of the clan's borders.
"Hey, do you think Dad would like these chocolates? No, they're not sweet, they have chili peppers in them! I think it's worth a shot." |
"Risen! Behave yourself around our guests. You're a clan leader, you should know to behave yourself better than that. At least pretend to have some decorum." |
"Don't take what he said to heart, he's just a grumpy old man. He just wants to get the job done and get back to... whatever he does when he's not around." |
