Quickscales lives in pieces. When she was a hatchling, she stumbled upon a malicious spell left over from ancient ages past. If it wasn't for the fast-thinking magicians in her birth clan, she would have died. Instead of turning to stone and disintegrating into unliving pieces, all of her pieces are held together by a mix of magic, talismans, and will.

After the magical accident as a child rendered her living shards of stone, she must fight every day to live any life at all. Because of her condition, she is often feared by those who do not know her, but she does not hold that against them. If she is not careful or loses concentration, she can shed pieces of herself. If too many pieces are lost, she fears she will die, or worse, lose her identity. She always tries to recover what she loses. So far, nothing has grown back, though the pieces she does have were able to grow up into a full-sized adult.
