 Squall and his ever-loyal mate Golem came to Ligare after being exiled from their former home. Allegations had been stirring in their birth clan against Squall and his dubious alchemical ethics. A few too obvious instances in which he'd toyed with the laws of alchemy and life had made their clanmates increasingly uncomfortable, even given Squall's status as heir to that clan's leader. Golem, though, seemed completely oblivious to her mate's less than appropriate pastimes. She continued to defend him right up until they left, following Archizoun after convincing him they were being unfairly targeted. Ever since joining Ligare, Squall felt as though the greatest opportunity had been unceremoniously dumped in his lap. Golem was just as stupidly loyal as he hoped she'd be, willing to overlook anything for the supposed love he felt for her. Not to say that Squall felt no affection for her, though. He loved her like one might love a favorite shovel or pair of shoes; they were useful, familiar, but he wouldn't be inconsolable when they broke. The hatchlings he sired with her inspired the same feelings their mother did, though the ones from his affair seemed far more useful if he could just get them to come around. It was a pity their mother couldn't see his vision, as a dragon of her caliber would have been useful in his eventual coup.

 Squall knew that overthrowing Archizoun when he had the entire clan at his back would be impossible. But luckily for him, the founder had recently began leaving at unplanned intervals, often staying gone for weeks at a time and leaving the management of the clan to Thylikos. So, taking advantage of the hand the Gods dealt him, Squall has begun spreading rumors that Archizoun isn't perhaps the stable leader that Ligare needs.
