|| BackgroundLooking at the placid, gentle Tamarix, it's hard to believe that he's the son of a pirate queen, and even harder to believe that he was raised upon her ship. But it's true; Tamarix's mother is none other than the Pirate Queen of the Scorchstream Strait, Thistle Gildedglow. He was hatched and raised on the boards of an ever-shifting ship, marked by chaos and cutthroat adventure at every turn. To say he did not suit it well is an understatement.
Despite his mother's overbearing love, Tamarix was simply not hatched for the pirate's life. He was an anxious sort from the moment he left his nest, and it only got worse and worse as the years went on. Tamarix was thrown into the deep end of being a pirate, a rambunctious and often dangerous life for a hatchling, and he simply could not cope. It eventually reached the point that Tamarix would not leave his den onboard the ship, no matter what anyone tried, because the outside world was simply too terrifying for him.
Unfortunately, Tamarix's issues were not easily solved. They tried a great deal of things, but none worked for very long, and he was forced to watch from the sidelines as his pirate family continued on with their lives without him. It took a long time, but eventually, Thistle offered him something that actually helped him: manaweed, imported from the Starfall Isles. When dried, burned and inhaled, the smoke from the plant calmed Tamarix's ceaseless nerves.
It was an immeasurably wonderful boon. However, even with this balm, Tamarix still did not succeed onboard his mother's ship. He was able to emerge from his self-imposed isolation, but found that he had very few useful skills; the only hobby he had pursued was tending to potted plants. Pirates had no need for succulents and herbs, so Tamarix quickly discovered that more often than not, he was unnecessary.
Eventually, after a tearful conversation, Thistle finally agreed to let Tamarix go. She took the ship to the Starfall Isles, gave him a pouch of treasure, and wished him well. It was slow going at first, but Tamarix eventually heard of Rara Avis, somewhere he could maybe fit in. There, he found a clan beginning to blossom into its prime, with its own lush gardens he could help with— finally, somewhere where he could be safe and appreciated. He took to his new clan easily.
|| CurrentA well-loved member of Rara Avis, Tamarix is finally happy now that he's in his new home. The clan gardens allow him to farm as much manaweed as he needs, and it has revealed a pleasant, mild-mannered whimsy that might surprise any who knew him as a nervous child. He is now also happily in love with the leader of the clan guard, Genji, and takes great delight in flustering his stern boyfriend.
Even though he feels much better these days, Tamarix is still rather reserved. He has many friends and enjoys company as much as the next dragon, but often prefers to be by himself— at least he's no longer hiding away in his den all the time. Because of this, he often takes long walks outside of the clan territory, sometimes reappearing just before sunset. It was during one of these strolls that he wandered far enough into the Starwood Strand to find the grove of a very strange dragon... one who he managed to befriend, and who he goes to visit every week.

|| Notes◈ Kee was a gift from Genji, and Tamarix loves the little turtle dearly. He keeps her in his den, and often can be found playing and relaxing with her.
◈ As he now has somewhat of a surplus of manaweed, Tamarix sometimes sells dried bundles of it during Rara Avis' weekly market. He uses the money to buy gardening materials.
◈ Tamarix is close with his boyfriend's family, who accept him as one of their own. Secretly, he hopes to wed Genji one day, but has no plans for that so far.
◈ The bag Tamarix wears around his hip contains some manaweed, but also some snacks of granola bars and other crunchy foods.
◈ Currently, Tamarix shares his personal den with Genji. However, he still doesn't feel safe sleeping in the same nest as another dragon, and his boyfriend understands and respects that, leading to them sleeping in separate nests.
