Biography
An inventor, tinkerer and general maker of gadgetry, Volkard is the dragon to turn to in The Levinworks if you want a machine or a device that may seem wild to consider, impossible to create and/or generally an unconventional solution to a problem. Having had a lot of experience in making unusual gadgets with hyper-specific purposes, he could be considered something of an expert.
What only a few know, however, is that in doing so they ask for the expertise of Lord Volkard of the Grim Thorns, an aspiring conqueror of all of Sornieth through the terrifying might of a variety of death machines and general doomsday-centric weaponry. Formerly, at least. Though he still has the weapons. And the death machine blueprints.
At one point an ambitious nocturne bent on world domination, Volkard's ego-serving intentions came crashing to an end when he came across a lost, injured and confused Cassan amidst a scrapheap while he sought inspiration for the best armaments to mount to a flock of genetically modified fallout streaks. Initially unconcerned, curiosity overcame him and he took the coatl back to his lair, helping her to recover from her wounds. Discovering Cassan had amnesia, Volkard's initial thought was use this as an opportunity... though in his time with her, he soon discovered he couldn't bear the thought of manipulating her. Great affection blossomed in him quickly and his time for his grand schemes dwindled more each day, until eventually the great Lord Volkard spent more time trying to make his new guest happy and thinking of methods to share his feelings than he did working to achieve his goals.
Eventually, after having fully recovered, Cassan no longer had reason to linger and his heart would not allow him to force her to stay. Desperation conquered over finer planning, resulting in an under-prepared fireworks display that still looked mildy evil, a flourish of flower petals that should never be ingested and a confession of love that might have once been a victory speech.
Since that day, the pair have been nigh inseparable and Volkard has been a somewhat changed nocturne, doing all he can to help his partner and trying to use his skills for more benevolent purposes, even if he still enjoys crafting deadly armaments and laughing maniacally at the end of dramatic speeches. Arriving at The Levinworks at Cassan's insistence, Volkard has been vital in both fixing problems and, by extension, saving lives, gaining him potentially more notice than his old plots ever did. As for his scheming, the mental effort has now been put into his next romantic gesture towards Cassan, always appearing to be planning an extravagant reminder of his love for her.
He isn't allowed to adopt any more fallout streaks, however, as everyone has unanimously agreed it's getting a little out of hand.
