Ash

- I sometimes forget Ash is the lady, and Cinder is the Lad. They’re a couple, yes? Lovely pair, have lived in the Depths for a long time. A part of one of the lesser known and minor families in the Depths (which I have yet to name Bc I have no family head for it). I originally almost put her name down as Ashe or like. Asche. But that wouldn’t tie in to the volcano thing, now would it. Cinder’s name was an impulsive move, but it suits him, just as much as Ash suits her.

1. She and her mate work as glass-smiths, having a smithy very close to the flow at the bottom of the ravine, which may or may not be extremely hot. Obsidian is a form of glass that they work with, besides the naturally occurring Andesine, and their produced wares are among the best selling trinkets and decorations above the surface. Ash works primarily with Andesine, and fashions the coins used as currency in the Depths, among other things.


2. While Cinder can handle direct contact with the lava flow, Ash is not so inclined. She can handle the heat, but to touch the source itself is simply too much.

3. Ash has fashioned weaponry from the resources available to her, and a tempered obsidian sword is one of her and her mate’s finest creations - and the fanciest.

4. Like everyone living in the Depths, Ash has a love for fruit, which is, more or less, a rarity and a luxury. She gets direct imports in exchange for her and her mate’s goods, and makes the best dishes with them. The heat of the flow does well to caramelize her favorites, and bake various goods, so often while she works, she has something cooking in an oven next to the smelter.

5. Folks rarely come down to their smithy, being where it is and how uncomfortable it may get for others, so it’s actually quite the place of solace. They’ve fashioned furniture down there, however hard the pieces may be, and spend quite a lot of time down there, when not working. Distractions while working can be dangerous, y’know. Which is… another reason folks don’t visit their smithy much. Dangerous. Not worth it.

6. Their home up in the city is very small, and perfect for their needs. The smithy is larger, and they spend more time in it, so, of course, it would make sense. It’s directly proportional.

7. Ash is fond of lace, and frilly things. She’s always wearing something made of it, even under the prrotective smithing gear, and she’s taken the extra bits of Andesine and fashioned them into her own jewelry, and jewelry to sell, as beautiful raw earrings, necklaces, you name it.

8. She’s the one in charge, out of her and Cinder. She’s outspoken, ready to make decisions when needed and one to keep track of what needs to be done per day. They always manage to exceed their quota.

9. When at home, Ash is rather quiet, which is unusual. They both are, really, and time spent in the coolness of home is best spent relaxing together, in her beliefs. Besides, everything at home is so nice… and soft… it’s very easy for her to relax and fall asleep, there, which, really, is mostly what their home is for. Sleeping, and Breaks.

10. Ash is strong. Not as strong as Cinder, but she’s very strong, considering she hauls up great portions of her work to the city itself. It’s not light, after all. She, however, doesn’t use her strength in the arena, which is odd, but, really, she’s not interested in the “big sport” of the Depths at all.
