Although the Queen's disease was stopped, the cure didn't reverse its consequences. Her Opal, petrified pieces of rotting flesh, is masked with illusions and spells, but not entirely. In her desperate attempts to keep the church, she was ready for disgusting things...
Veda explained her long absence to the believers. She said she took care of the lost egg... while holding a tiny hatchling, who haven't even open his eyes yet. She proclaimed him a prophet, given to her church by the Lightweaver. She convinced her flock that now this place will be a place of pilgrimage for all worshippers - and that her White City will flourish, blessed by the goddess herself.
She managed to cover the hatchling's opening eyes with her paw.

Shadow.
Light prophet can't have eyes like these. Dark, deep, ugly eyes.
You can't place an illusion on someone's eyes.
Better to have no eyes at all...
She did it herself later that day, and the first and last thing he ever saw was the impassive face of his adoptive mother.

In an attempt to justify her new look, changed by illness, the queen went even further.
She found a way to apply her disease, Opal, on any dragon of her choice. It was expensive and required research... and maybe not so voluntary scientists... but the result was better then she expected. Ankhira, infected with this vicious sickness, was changing fast. It took only a few days before he start to rot. Before he start to weep.
And his Opal was beautiful golden instead of red.
Veda stopped the process few weeks later. Pieces of petrified flesh on his face, and legs, and paws, and wings... it resembles hers. Now, if a prophet of Light have the same illness as she had... Some may even call it blessing.
