"Our lives can change so much the course of a sennight..."
He was a mess, a heap of tattered feathers and fur. The small hatchling remembers little of his parents or young life, just that his father had deep, soulless black eyes. Shadows were everywhere, a looming feature that, as a Shadow dragon, he was naturally okay with. But something wasn't right with the ones that covered his father. He fled home as soon as he was capable but quickly found out that Shadow territory was not designed for him. His shimmering, speckled scales practically reflected the pale blue light that was everywhere, and Fletch found his only protection in that of slime. Slathering himself with moss, mud, ooze, and sludge, he managed to blend in better, but thats not all he did. The oily sludge refused to come off his feathers, and as he dove in the swamps, rivers, and lakes in search of food the Coatl quickly realized something was wrong. Sickness began to take over him, but the need to eat was still there as he continued to fish. Water seeped down to his skin, his feathers bunched up, and he could hardly move as the chill took him over. The waters carried him away, and it was by some miracle he was alive when he washed ashore far, far away. Past that, his memories are fuzzy. There was an odd mix of freezing cold and blistering heat as something lifted him from the stony shore he was on. He was taken somewhere and quickly resuscitated. The hatchling teetered on the brink, but somehow they managed to warm him up and shove non-toxic food down his gullet. When he finally blinked his eyes open, they breathed a sigh of relief. A bath came next, and every dragon present gasped in aw that this child was not black, but pale blue. Fletch didn't know what to do or say. Everything was still fuzzy, but this place looked nothing like home. It didn't smell it, and the people didn't act it. He didn't even feel out of place with his bright feathers. As he recovered the child grew used to his new surroundings, and found it was more of a home that Shadow ever was. (Good at traversing shadow territory and finding mushrooms along with other herbs.) ~ ~ ~ Some would find it odd that a dragon with a forever mate would be flirtatious, but both Fletch and Cele know its just a passing fancy. Fletch never means any harm by it, and its more to get a laugh or smile than anything else. Regardless, he knows when enough is too much and maintains a healthy, understanding relationship with his mate.
