Coal

The shiny, dark colored dragon came to the clan with love in his heart. Though he was the offspring to two fierce dragons the innocent hatchling was ready to be anyones friend, and open himself to others. Such a gentle soul was quick to forge friendships, and he grew into a fine, dragon the whole clan could be proud of; quick to help, patient with hatchlings, and brave on the defensive line.

A pretty, utterly stunning dragon had caught his eye, and though he had much to use to impress her, Coal was a nervous mess as he attempted to court her. Despite this, the Pearlcatcher enjoyed his display and even agreed to be his mate as time passed between them. Life couldn't have been better for the male, and with a bursting heart and new hatchlings to encourage him he even rose to be captain of the guard, the clan's defensive unit.

But Nova was a modest girl, and while his effort was humbling she did not seem taken by his advance in ranks. Coal was confused, she was nothing but kind to him, but still seemed oddly distant while he continued to shower his love upon her. He figured she was upset that their last hatchlings had left the clan, and instead tried to fill the void with gifts and conversation. To say he was devastated when she, out of the blue, said she no longer wished to be mates, was an understatement.

The male dragon begged, not understanding, but she firm in her decision despite how gentle she went about it. Heartbroken, Coal no longer knew what to do with himself. As such a sweet hearted dragon, such heartbreak was difficult to bare. Everything he did reminded him of what he lost, and eventually, all he could do was engross himself in the guard to keep the thoughts away. Coal was reduced to a self of his former self, still a sweetheart but recluse and quiet. With time, the scars healed, but his wrist still adorns the bracelet that marked their union.
