Rajni
Storyteller | Elder
Somewhere all stories are real, all songs are true.

Role

Officially designated as the storyteller, Rajni also tutors the hatchlings in basic life skills such as etiquette, mental maths and grovelling. She is scared of the dark herself, and only tells stories when Caspar has a roaring bonfire going. When she does start to murmur, however, the entire clan listens intently because Rajni's stories are all incredibly complicated epics that take weeks to finish. Despite his best efforts, Raymond has only managed to document half of all her narratives, which was enough to fill three enormously thick books that each require two entire hatchlings to lift.

Personality

All of Rajni's stories start with once upon a time, but not all of them end with happily ever after. Rajni likes her stories to be complex but uplifting, a realistic reflection of life as well as a way of imparting precious wisdoms. She speaks in a lilting, rhythmic murmur, which either sends you to sleep or sweeps you to fantastical lands that only exist in myth and legend. Clan members are all profoundly influenced by Rajni's quiet adoration of the world and everything in it. From an early age, she instils within them and nurtures a Light dragon's yearning for information, as well as a Skydancer's natural love of performance.

Background

As a clan elder (and the only one who actually acts like it) it falls to Rajni to remember all their stories. She remembers arriving and meeting Al for the first time, and readily recounts how ridiculously gangly he was. She remembers the first time the they entered the Manor, and describes her awe and wonder at the idea of finally having somewhere to call home. She even remembers Em and Sigrun's first clutch, and the expressions of sheer joy on their faces. Al may be the leader of the clan, but Orion and Rajni are its twin hearts.

Relationships

Needless to say, Rajni is completely enamoured by Orion. Many of the heroes in Rajni's stories are based on Orion, and she proudly shows him off at any opportunity. Rajni is good friends with all the elders, although she prefers to watch amusedly from a distance when they inevitably start to squabble. She is also quite fond of Al, like most dragons, and sees him less as a boss and more of an older brother who protects the clan and watches over their family. Her closest confidant has always been Hypatia, however. Everyone wonders how two such opposites can get along so well, but they're all too scared of Hypatia to ask.
