Those who have come into contact with Elisabeth (and her intense crimson gaze) are often left wondering why the Pearlcatcher chose to settle down in the Windswept Plateau of all places. She stands in stark contrast with the ever-joyous and blithe children of the Windsinger, and the more skeptical or paranoid observer would immediately begin to suspect that she is there for nefarious purposes.
On Elisabeth's part, she does not bother with those who are prone to assumptions or given to gossip as she feels that she need only prove herself to the leaders of the Clan, a task she has long ago accomplished. Elisabeth is no greenhorn. While she is not as old as some of the dragons who inhibit this somewhat peaceful inn of the Twisting Crescendo, she is not a newcomer either and has enough foresight to establish herself as a valuable if not integral part of the Clan.

The dragons who come away from their interactions with Elisabeth will often speak of her intelligence with some going as far as to compare her reasoning skills to the scholars of Light and Arcane. Armed with a discerning mind and a keen sense of scrutiny, Elisabeth is quick to take stock or question what is happening around her and nothing seems to escape her notice.
Of course, high praise comes with its own set of criticism as well. Her detractors are often quick to point out how detached and emotionless she is. Also thrown around are terms such as unfeeling and callous and even cruel, resulting in Elisabeth rolling her eyes if she were to hear these whispers about her. She does not believe that the sunniness of one's smile or the loudness of one's laugh should be used to measure one's merit.
Elisabeth's stoic nature lends her an air of dignity and more important still, it keeps the gossips at bay leaving her able to perform her studies in peace.

Large Clans were not a feature of the sickly and monstrous lands of the Plaguebringer, but Elisabeth was born into such a one.

She lived in something called a quarantine zone, swaths of land that were set aside for the testing of new strains of viruses, where her parents were in charge of an extensive team. Tasked with monitoring factors that encouraged the rapid spread of infections and how they could make the jump from one species to another they did not shy away from exposing their daughter to the technical aspects of their work.
By the standards of Plague dragons, Elisabeth's parents were nurturing in that they encouraged her instincts to survive at every turn. However, hers was not a sentimental childhood. Living in a quarantine zone and being surrounded by a lush abundance of life just waiting to be experimented on also acquainted Elisabeth with death. Nothing lasted long in these zones. It was their job to decimate and destroy, making a note of the whys and hows before moving on.

Elisabeth was taught to be reserved and to cherish strength above all else. For the most part, she succeeded in those lessons barring once. During her ninth summer, her parents moved the Clan to a new quarantine zone, and Elisabeth discovered her affinity for birds for it was also home to a sizeable population of Hooded Dodos.
She took a liking to these dark colored blind fowl finding it amusing how they waddled along and sustained themselves without the benefit of sight. Without her parent's knowledge, Elisabeth began to sneak them food and to her delight discovered a nest. She was present when the little eggs hatched and was impressed and fascinated by these little resilient birds from the very beginning.

However, things in the quarantine zone did not remain peaceful for very long. Elisabeth caught wind of plans to unleash a new contagion in the area which had her worrying about the safety of the chicks. On the eve of the release, she crept out among the glowing, rotted branches intent on bringing the whole nest of chicks indoors, but Elisabeth gravely miscalculated.
Without her knowledge, the team had moved their plans forward, and she was trapped outside with the virus. As smoke began to fill the quarantine zone, Elisabeth curled herself around the nest. There was no space for both the chicks and her Pearl under her wing, and so she left the latter unprotected.

Her parents found her sick with a fever a day later.

Elisabeth was bedridden for months afterward barely clinging to life. Those who came to examine her would remark on the state of her Pearl which had taken on the reds, browns, and greens of a festering wound. Weblike cracks had formed along the insides of the Pearl as well, but nobody could tell what this change meant. In the end, such things did not matter to her parents as little by little she clawed her way from the brink of death.
Not only did Elisabeth become better she also became more attuned and more resilient to disease. The strain that was intended for the Dodos did not harm her anymore, and it seemed that her Pearl would pulse and glow around the sickly. Her parents encouraged her growing talents, shaping her into an efficient healer.
When Elisabeth came of age, she took to traveling and headed South to the Windswept Plateau. On her travels, she befriended more birds. Crows, in particular, were favored by her as their coloration reminded her of those Hooded Dodos though they were not as amusing.

Presently she is living with a Clan that makes its home in the Twisting Crescendo. Elisabeth enjoys the chaos and appreciates how the Clan and its various neighbors survive in such an unpredictable environment. Elisabeth is a stoic and silent figure within the Clan, an enemy of gossips which is ironic given the penchant of her species. She functions as a Healer though she would be the first to say that she is better than that.
With the help of her Pearl and years of experience in the field, Elisabeth knows more about disease than most. She possesses the ability to discern what exactly is ailing her patients, and if need be, take the contagion within herself. She has survived devastating illness once, and more will only make Elisabeth and her Pearl stronger.

As you enter Elisabeth's den...

The rancid smell of disease and sickness is all around you; brows tight and teeth gritted, you try to breathe through mind-numbing pain; dark feathers glint under sunlight, catching your gaze; chin high, steps light, whispers seem to die when dragons see you; pulsating stabs in your chest whenever your Pearl cracks a little; the calming scent of earthy herbs; sweet tea, reassuring and smooth down your throat; your head tilted to one side, you feel a rare smile cross your face as a bird bobs its head while it walks; looking down onto a carcass, you whisper a quiet word of thanks for the gift of sustenance; claws on scales, the feeling of muscle and tissue moving beneath, healthy and strong- you remember once more that this is what you live for.
