“You have to move now,” hissed Nott as she appeared in front of Faerie.

Titania jumped as she saw the face of Freyr’s mate appear in front of her own eyes. Nott hadn’t spoken a word to her since she was brought to the Badlands against her will. She thought the powerful Imperial was mad and upset at her.The would be Queen of the Faeries gave a look of confusion at Nott. Why would she be here? Why was she making her move? The Imperial gasped as the den she was in had rattled and rocks began to fall. She covered the two pups that were nestled in her paws to keep them out of harm’s way. They were born only a few hours ago.

“What’s going on?” she asked Nott with a frantic tone to her voice.

“It seems Thor is coming for you,” whispered Nott. “I can sense him. The electricity in the air is thickening.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

Nott stared at the Imperial as she seemed to pull herself around her twin boys more than she had been before all the rattling and shaking. The goddess of the night sighed before nipping at the fur on Titania, “I want to help you escape.”

Titania had been startled by Nott’s response. Why would she want to help her? Wasn’t she on Freyr’s side? Nott sighed as she saw the look Titania was giving her, “I am faithful to my mate. Do not get me wrong. But, you don’t belong here, Titania. I want the twins and you to be somewhere where they can be safe and for you to look happy.”

When Nott had first came to be, without her memories, she remembered a Faerie that had helped her on her journey. She wanted to make it up to those faeries by helping their would be queen. She moved out of the cave before seeing Titania struggle. She had the twins to carry. They weren’t able to run yet. Nott walked back inside before grabbing the lighter colored one. She nestled him on Titana’s back before smiling. “Let’s go.”

Titania ran after Nott as she tried to keep her one twin balanced between her shoulder blades as she had the other carried by the scruff. She dodged rocks and things that fell as she saw the flames appear in the distance.

Karna, was her first thought. The dragon didn’t interact much with the others, but he was Thor’s first line of defense.

She yelped as Nott stopped in front of her. She panted while trying to keep her one child in her mouth. Titania tilted her head as she stared at Nott in confusion. Nott moved to the side a bit before staring at her then she smiled.

“I can’t continue any further with you Titania, Queen of the Faeries,” she said as she looked in that direction. “But, if you keep going straight, you will hit the outskirts of the Valhalla gardens. Your home.”

Nott disappeared afterward into a hidden tunnel. She was most likely going to try and divert attention from Freyr by others who came with Thor. Titania stared in that direction for a moment before she headed off in the direction the Imperial told her to keep going. She wasn’t going to fly. It was too dangerous. She’d lose the twins. The Faerie gasped as a rock dislodged from its position on a cliff above her. She made a noise as she flapped her wings before taking off in the air to dodge it. She landed on the ground once again before fleeing. In her haste and scaredness, she hadn’t noticed the weight between her shoulders had shifted …

Titania stopped as she saw the Valhalla gardens golden flowers shine brightly before her. She yelped as lightning flashed across the skies. Thor was fighting now. When had he gotten here? She made a noise as she stumbled over a rock before tumbling down a small hill. Her baby flew from her mouth before landing on a soft patch of grass. She huffed before crawling over to him. She looked him over before looking for his brother. Her eyes widened as she looked around the area frantically. Where was he? Where was he? WHERE WAS HE? She went to search every inch of the area. He was on her back. He was there the whole time .. wasn’t he? She cried when she realized she had lost him.

“I have to go get him,” she said as she went to go back before a small mewl stopped her.

Titania turned toward her other child before tears streamed down her snout. She couldn’t leave him here in the middle of all this fighting. She couldn’t take him with her either. What if she lost him too? The Imperial walked over to him before curling herself around the pup as she cried for her lost son. Why had this happened? Why her? Her baby booped her with his nose before nuzzling her as the lightning stopped crackling across the sky. A calm had settled over the land. She lifted her head as she saw a familiar Skydancer land in front of her. Archaic magic sparked around him as he stared at Titania.

“Erik,” she said.

The baby mewled as he had sensed the loss of warmth that he grew accustomed too. Bright pink eyes opened as he took in his surroundings. He mewled again before he began to cry. Where was he? Why wasn’t he with his mother? His mewling grew more distinct and scared. His mother? Where was she? His legs moved as he tried to stand before falling over. He had only been born a few hours before all of this had happened. He could hardly stand. He cried. Nott passed as she heard mewling in the distance. She diverged from her route to get to Freyr, to help him, when she paused. She stared at the light colored baby Imperial that kept mewling for his mother.

“What? What are you doing here?”

Nott grabbed the pup by the scruff before she hurried off to protect him. She dodged falling debris as well as the lightning strikes that seemed to hit the ground. The shadow beneath her seemed to almost protect her of its own free will. Her powers over the night and darkness helped the Imperial goddess out quite a bit. She saw a crevice coming toward her as she ran. Nott took a running start before leaping over it. She soared above the crevice before spreading her wings. She landed on the other side before folding them up. The pup was still mewling and crying for his mother. This wasn't the smell he had been accustomed too. It was a different smell. Nott ran into an unused den before she moved to the very back before placing the pup between her paws. She licked him clean as she waited until the battle had ended. She was bruised and beaten from the falling rocks of the ceiling of the den, but she didn't move. She had to protect this child. When all had gone quiet, she grabbed him by the scruff of his neck then left the den.

She managed to make to the main den before stumbling through the entry way. It was a disaster. It would take forever until she could get this place cleaned up and suitable for hatching a nest once again. She spotted a familiar figure pacing the den. She walked over before placing the pup on the floor. Freyr stopped as he stared at the small pup before looking at Nott.

"I'm sorry, Freyr. She got away. But," she pushed the pup closer to him. "We can raise him as our own."

Fafnir grew up quick after being introduced to his father. He started training as soon as his magic began to flow from him. But, it was different. Powerful. Freyr liked this powerful magic that flowed from the boy. A war raged within him with the Faerie and Shade magic battling against each other. Fafnir was in constant turmoil. His only affection and relief came from Nott. She had become his mother. The dragon took care of him as if he was her own son. But, even that had its limit ...

Fafnir remembered playing before his magic got the best of him. It took over as the dark magic etched on his scales. He didn't remember much before he remembered Nott biting his tail which snapped him out of it as he yelped. He whimpered as he gave his mother a pitiful look. She snarled at him. At the time, she was with a nest once again. And, he had attacked one of the eggs. It was crackled. Didn't survive.

"Fafnir!" she growled.

"I ... I'm sorry m-momma," he whimpered as he cowered in the corner she had pushed him into.

"DON'T call me that," she hissed. "You are NOT my son. I have put up with it since the day you were saved by me. And for what? Because Freyr took a liking to you? He doesn't even love his own kids with his mate as much as he treats you like his proud trophy."

Fafnir yelped before he bolted out of the den. He didn't mean it. He didn't mean any of it. She didn't have to be so mean to him. Tears dripped down his snout as he made it to the edge of the canyon they lived on. He cried as he stared down it. Why was he different? Why couldn't he be normal like the others?

"Crying is for the weak, Fafnir."

The young dragon jumped as he spotted Freyr sit beside him. He looked away from the dragon before continuing to cry.

"Emotions are for the unfortunate. Let it go. Train with me. Soon nobody will ever look down on you."

He curled around the boy as he buried his face in Freyr's scales. Nobody would yell at him every again. Nobody would ever see him as strange or different. He looked up at Freyr. Right?

The training became even more intense after his confrontation with Freyr. He would come back to the den tired and drained. Nott had grown worried for the boy, and she had confronted Freyr about it. She would argue with him, but his words would shut her down. She drove him to this fate. She had yelled at him. Told him he wasn't her son. She would never forgive herself for such a thing. Days turned to weeks. And weeks turned to months. Fafnir grew into a handsome Imperial. Though, he was different. The markings that came when his magic took over permanently scarred his skin. The two magics raged inside of him to fight for control. He looked empty. No emotion seemed to surface on his face. The only time it had surfaced was when Nott was in pain or suffering. Despite her words, he still cared about the dragon that took care of him.

He stared at Freyr before lunging at him. This was normal. Training with Freyr had become normal. He would never beat the Imperial no matter how hard he tried. Fur and blood flew and magic raged between the two of them. Fafnir snarled before a dark pink seemed to swirl around him. Another, darker magic, seemed to intertwine with it. The magic forced its way toward Freyr before knocking him backwards. Fafnir lunged knowing he had an opportunity. His jaws clamped around Freyr's throat. He didn't clamp hard.

Freyr laughed as he saw that Fafnir had pinned him. Oh, how he long for a child that could defeat him. Fafnir was everything he hoped for and more. Kidnapping that would be queen of faeries was the best thing he had ever done. Fafnir let him up before sitting in front of Freyr, emotionless, like always. Freyr circled around him as he grinned.

"Soon, Fafnir, you will lead us to take over the Valhalla gardens. That fool Thor has been in charge for far too long with my little sister."

Fafnir replied, "Of course, father."
