Hermione’s egg was left to its fate within the Cairnestone Rest. Her parents rejected the egg when they saw the Earthshaker’s sigil on their egg. The young Bogsneak hatched alone, cold and scared. She was naturally a curious little thing, and she stumbled and tripped her way deeper into the deep tunnels of the Cairne. She found a small cave with a small pool of water which she was able to stay in without any trouble, and she made many trips to the surface for some nice soil, which she used to make a muddy area for herself to bathe in. She then went searching for some rotting logs and managed to find a few, dragging them home and declaring her little den finished. She grew up exploring the depths of the Cairne. She saw many marvels, many clans and many, many undead wrights. She grew stronger and stronger by battling and defeating these wrights, often looting the places they were, claiming many tonnes of gold, gemstones and various other treasures. She eventually had to expand her little den, adding on a few rooms for all her treasure. She learnt ancient magic from the books and scrolls she found hidden amongst the other treasures she’d taken. She used these skills to hide her den and especially the new treasure rooms. She collected enough supplies for a week from her kitchen, and sealed her den with the ward spell. She wandered in a direction she’d not gone before. She knew there was no clans within this area of the Cairne’s tunnels, and she felt safe wandering around. As she ventured deeper and deeper, she began to hear a strange noise akin to stones grinding. She looked around in a panic, fearing a cave-in, but couldn’t see any signs of falling rocks in the tunnel. She went along very cautiously and as she travelled deeper, the noise grew louder and closer. She was very weirded out by this, as there were no falling rocks or any of the signs she’d learned to look for in the event of a cave-in, except for that noise! As she finally entered the large cavern she’d decided to search this week, she was shocked to see the Earthshaker curled up on a rocky ledge. His breathing was the noise she’d been hearing and she started to slowly back away, trying her hardest not to wake the sleeping god. As she backed away, her claws knocked a stone down a chasm and the Earthshaker began to wake. Hermione wildly looked around for a place to hide and dove for a large boulder to try to hide behind it. She shook in fear, knowing that all it would take is one blow from the god and she’d be dead. The Earthshaker raised his head and looked around for the disturbance. He spotted Hermione’s tail peeking out from behind the boulder and chuckled. “Do not fear child. I do not desire to harm thee. Come, sit with me and I shall tell thee stories of time before time itself.” Hermione being the curious little thing that she was, emerged from behind the boulder and made her way to the god’s side. She snuggled down next to him and looked up at him in curiosity. “What types of stories will you tell me?” She asked him. He chuckled again and bent his great head down to her ear and began to talk. Hermione was captivated by the Earthshaker’s tales. She forgot to eat, forgot to drink, forgot all but his voice. After what seemed like forever, he finally finished talking. “It is time for you to eat and drink, child. Please return to thy den and travel here anon and I will impart upon thee more tales.” She rushed home, hunger and thirst tearing into her and she swore to herself that she would return to listen once again. Her duty on this planet, she reasoned, was to be his companion for as long as she could. She smiled as she fell asleep, dreaming of the wondrous tales he would tell her tomorrow. | xxxx |
