Biography
M I S T Y
the ranger
Perhaps it is better she stay silent about what happened when she returns to her territory with her injured son and a prisoner his age. Misty knows there are consequences for actions such as hers, and she knows that the prisoner will let it slip soon enough that their blindness was her own doing. The Wildclaw keeps her head held high for the time being, unceremoniously depositing the two other Wildclaws at the entrance to the infirmary.
Esper doesn't say a word when she takes the two teenagers into her den. She knows what happened. She knows of Wildclaw battles, enough to know that the only injury out of the ordinary is the chemical burn across the white Wildclaw's face.
They would have killed him.
Perhaps it's only a means of justifying herself, but Misty likes to believe her own mantra makes her feel just slightly better.

"I take it things worked as intended?"
The way Glaze asks her about the poison is far more casual than Misty expected, considering Glaze is all too familiar with the clan's medic. He is no doubt aware of what Misty did during the battle. He is well aware, she tells herself, that she blinded that dragon. He knows.
"Very." Misty's answer is quiet, but straightforward. "I'll be coming to you again next time trouble starts brewing."
"Haha! Yes, trouble," Glaze chuckles, "Wastelands aren't kind. I'm not surprised our attackers were the Plaguebringer's ilk."
She has half a mind to retort back with just how hypocritical a remark like that is coming from the red-eyed Coatl. Ultimately, however, Misty holds her tongue. Best not to stir anything up just yet.
Misty bows and turns to leave.
Glaze wants to call back to her. He refrains from speaking.
Best to let the Wildclaw's actions catch up with her, he thinks.

The days pass.
The prisoner remains silent, and their family never comes back.
Misty is sent to the Abiding Boneyard for the sake of returning the younger Wildclaw. They're hardly a talkative sort. Misty keeps them under her spread wing, using it to guide them while they can't navigate alone. A day passes. The prisoner keeps insisting their family is nearby.
They aren't. Whoever attacked the clan's territory, they've long since lost interest in the child they lost. After three days, both Wildclaws have given up any hope, and Misty quietly returns to her old territory with the younger dragon in tow.
"Their name is Yahaloma," she tells her king later that day, "And they wish to join the clan."
She's lying through her teeth as she says it.

The trip to Dragonhome is long, but Misty's guidance helps ease the journey out. Across rough mountains and sprawling plains, Notus Silver has Misty as one of its guides, alongside one of its elemental envoys, Pebble. Misty becomes something of a hero, yet something still jabs at the back of her mind, and it comes back every time she looks at the Wildclaw that somehow has managed to captivate her son.
Yahaloma has grown strong, and has learned to fight just as well as they could while they could see. One of the clan's oracles, Tidus, has found himself blinded, and Yahaloma's assistance has proven immeasurably important.
Tourmaline no longer wishes to be an explorer like his mother. Instead, he feeds his interest in performing, excitedly singing and telling stories to keep the clan's spirits up. Yahaloma is always there next to him, adding their own sarcastic jabs to his tales.
Occasionally, the two will wrestle, but it's nowhere near as malicious as their first meeting was. Misty wishes she could be happier to see that her son has found a mate.
She can't tell if it's her own guilt or if it's concern for her son that's causing such apprehension.

By the time she's settled into Dragonhome, Misty is anxious to explore the area. With the sun beating down on her each time she leaves, Misty eventually buys herself a hat to shield her own vision before heading out on her newest journey. Being away from the new lair is liberating, she thinks. So little can happen to her, at least compared to what she believes her own clan will do.
Perhaps Yahaloma has been waiting this entire time, or perhaps they've finally let go of a long-standing grudge. Regardless, Misty feels like home is the last place she wants to be.
It's better that way. She can explore, report back, explore, report back...She can ignore her own guilt for a bit.
Dragonhome is wonderfully warm, she thinks.
