We came to Keres as explorers, millennia ago. We were dissatisfied with life on Homeworld, and so we left to forge our own path. The road was difficult, and many perished along the way. We persevered. We survived. We thrived.

Homeworld made a catastrophic mistake, and it was engulfed in destruction like we'd never imagined. We could do nothing but watch in horror as it was ruined in the blink of an eye.

We persevered.

On Keres, we could not use our connection to the Calculations. Keres lacks the magical core that our Homeworld possesses, and without it we could not power the machines that kept us alive. We resorted to solar power, and it was not enough; we resorted to geothermal power, and it was not enough. We learned ways of harnessing our magic with greater precision. We would not die here.

We survived.

We rebuilt. We mourned our Homeworld. Most of us had never set foot there and now we never would. Keres was the home of us all, now, even as we slowly began to wither away. All our ability was not enough. Keres was a dead world, and the power requirements for simple survival were simply too vast to be met without help from our Homeworld. We worried that we might perish at last.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and so we tapped into the Void, as we had once sworn not to do. We learned to harness it; we learned to avoid its pitfalls. For the first time in centuries, we began to grow. We began to do more than scrape for survival. We began to hope.

We thrived.

We thought ourselves masters of our Voidcraft. We advanced farther, carefully, slowly. We talked of perhaps one day returning to Homeworld; of restoring our monuments, of finding the descendants of survivors, if there were any. We planned decades ahead - centuries ahead. Our optimism knew no bounds. We had come back from near extinction, and we would begin our Golden Age anew.

It is said that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

We proved the saying true.
