Yusei

From his youth, Yusei had known exactly what he wanted to do with his life. He had always been adventurous, racing ahead where others might falter or use caution. Some called him brash – he called those people cowards. They never felt the call for adventure, for exploration, for fighting to defend one’s home.

And that’s exactly what Yusei wanted to do. Eager to prove himself, he started young, seeking out foes and fighting them in the name of keeping the clan safe. Though he got wounded a few times, once very badly, nothing was enough to keep him down for very long. And it was but a short time after his coming of age that he was officially one of the Clan’s Defenders. It was his role to go out with the gathering parties, to keep them safe when they were hunting food for the clan or finding treasure to add to the hoard. This job, which had been laughed off as mundane by a few other members of the clan around his age, was of the utmost importance to Yusei. Couldn’t they see what an honored position this was? Nothing was more noble than keeping the clan safe.

And the day soon came that his skills were put to the test.

They were out digging and hunting in the Scorched forest, when they suddenly came under attack. Owlcats everywhere, screeching their anger at having their land traipsed upon by these dragons, they flew out of the trees in a raging swarm. Yusei and the other defenders fought bravely, but they were clearly outnumbered. He and a few other defenders remained to hold the line with others escorted their gatherers and hunters to safety, but he was not sure if they were going to be able to hold out…

That was when the heavens suddenly opened, a torrent of lightning smiting their attackers and driving them back. When the battlefield cleared, Yusei saw the source – a young Imperial, standing just in the far treeline. He looked battered and travel-weary, but the bright, dancing blue of his eyes left no room for doubt – he had definitely been the one to summon those bolts.

Yusei felt an immediate connection with the stranger. He didn’t know what to call it, but he was struck with the immediate urge to welcome him into the clan, take him under his wing. When it became clear that the dragon, who gave his name as Yami once they were back safely with Yusei’s clan, had no home, Yusei petitioned at once with the clan leaders to find a place for him here. After much deliberation, it was proven that Yusei would not take no for an answer, and Yami became one of theirs.

Since that time, Yusei and his mate, Regalia, took to helping Yami train his magic. And once he had it under control, he became a valuable piece of the clan’s defenses.

For his part, Yusei was happy that his family had grown just a little larger.
