Mzinchaleft can't actually see - he was born blind. He uses his Sight as an oracle to see, which changes how everything looks a bit. He can see ultraviolet light, and colors are more pronounced in his vision. However, the Sight sometimes gives him an improper view of his surroundings by showing him what the future will look like instead.

Mzinchaleft isn't always consciously aware of what's about to happen - he feels that it's going to happen and his body reacts accordingly.

He's very large, even for a Nocturne. His huge wings carry him easily across Fellreach. Maybe it would be easier to see how large he was in sunlight...

Mzinchaleft can spray supercooled water as opposed to direct ice from his mouth, which freezes on contact with air. He does this with reckless abandon, and can quickly freeze prey and dragons solid in just a few seconds.

He exudes a frigid aura - one that can make the hardiest Guardian shiver.

It's rather difficult to find Mzinchaleft due to his nomadic behavior. Finding him is made much more difficult when he doesn't want to be found. He knows you're coming.

Mzinchaleft blends incredibly well with the environment in the Floodplains. His shimmering scales make him seem to melt when submerged in the floodplain's glowing water.

Contrary to his breed, he doesn't eat insects. He eats primarily seafood, and is a master fisher. Being practically invisible in the water helps him in this endeavor.

Mzinchaleft would be about 25 in human years. He will die at 28 years of age, due to the price of his gift of Sight.

Mzinchaleft jerked awake, nostrils twitching. Smoke, smoke was everywhere, filling his lungs with choking pain. Scrambling to his feet, he bounded towards the entrance of his alcove.

What he laid his Sight upon was a horrific scene.

Bodies of dragons everywhere, magical fire burning everything in sight. The river was stained black with ash. The towering mushrooms, once having a soft blue glow, shone a harsh red. The crystals on the ceiling far above were shattered, bits of them stuck in the blackened ground. Smoke drifted freely throughout the cave, choking out whatever was left alive - Mzinchaleft included.

Grasping his throat, Mzinchaleft fell to the ground, wheezing out a string of shocked curses. As he lay there gasping, his Sight wavered, the scene fading back into the glowing haven he called home. Struggling to his feet once more, he shakily sighed at what his Sight showed him, a warning of what may be to come.

The image was burned into his mind, and he could still catch the faint smell of smoke in the air...

Lore Theme Week: The Progenitor

37317641p.png
Many have heard the legends of what lurks underneath the Abiding Boneyard.
Victims lost to the river of Time, long forgotten relics, ancient horrors too evil to be spoken.
The story of our Progenitor is no different.

Some would say that he's a savage, others would say he's a savior. It all depends on what side the bone fell on. For some, it fell onto a deep and bitter wound. His name, Blightfall, comes from the anguish that was brought upon many that crossed paths with him.

I do not know much about Blightfall himself, just what stories follow in his wake. I wasn't even a mere hatchling when he and his mate founded Fellreach. One thing is certain, though: don't cross him or anyone in our clan.
He will hunt you down, no matter how far you try to run.

Ice Wyrm II

37317641_350.png

37317641p.png
Mzinchaleft arrived once more at Casey's booth, sighing as he rested his blue feet on the cold, snowy ground. He seemed a bit miffed at the frosty substance.

"Dear Eleven, I am not fond of this stuff. I live in the Floodplains, not Wintersfall…"

Guess he still finds it chilly, despite being an Ice dragon.
He looked up at Casey with a small smile.

"It's nice to see you again. My, it's been a while, hasn't it? I come bearing my own story for you this time - after all, I am a child of the ice."

He settled on carpeted square, curling his feet under him to warm them back up. Once he stilled, he opened his mouth and began his tale.

"My hatchling days are lost to the haze of my memories, but I'm certain I lived a fairly average life growing up. Of course, I was blind - being blind in a tundra doesn't really change much anyway, though. Everything's bright and white, regardless of what it is.

My story really began when I was taken in by the clan of Fellreach, if they can be called that. It's really more of a loose group of dragons lightly bound together by living in the same general area...
I stumbled (literally) into a cavern off the main cave. It was there in the water that I found my Sight."

He paused, gesturing to his pale blue eyes. A black, almost tarry substance dripped from them, and from the scales down his neck.

"I vaguely remember hitting my head on a rock in the cavern. Though I cannot recall how exactly it happened, I awakened shortly after with the gift of foresight. I wish I could speak of what the cave looked before I awoke, but alas, I was completely blind to it. The cave I woke in looked nothing like it had felt before I hit my head.

Of course, such a gift to one not blessed by birth does not come without a price. The result is this tarry substance that flows from me, and the inability to truly control my Sight. I can will it to happen, but it also shows me things without me desiring to see."

Mzinchaleft catches a droplet of the black substance in a glowing claw, holding it aloft for Casey to see.

"This... tar is my life. Liquefied and leaking from me at all times. The gift I was given will end up killing me. This is the ultimate price I will pay - my life, in exchange for the ability to change the future before it happens."

He drew in a long breath, and sighed. His face became forlorn as he whispered his next words.

"And yet, I've found myself entwining myself with another dragon... What I vowed not to do, because my body will depart this world before I am ready to say farewell. The closest thing to a child I will ever have - Cielo."

47894438_350.png

Mzinchaleft conjured a picture of Cielo with a masterful array of ice crystals, glimmering in shades of blue like the dragon they were depicting.

"Young to this world, and childish in the best of terms, his soul traveled here from a place far away from Sornieth. Campo del Cielo, that's what he declared himself to be when I found him."

The male closed his eyes, and if one looked closely, a small tear leaked from one eye.

"I see myself in him, he reminds me of when I was younger. My wish for him is to not go seeking greater knowledge where it is too dangerous for dragons to tread. I dread the day I am destined to depart, and how I wish I could evade my end. I wish I had more time to spend with him..."

Mzinchaleft's soft voice cracked on his final sentence, betraying his great sorrow within. He dipped his head under one great wing, his form shaking silently as he ended his tale, leaving Casey to ponder all he had told her.
