The Witch’s Noxious Ward
By Claire
He was supposed to have been a light snack for Brainz, at least that's what Meatwad had intended. The Spiral had found him cute, and thieved him back to his lover, to watch him devour a precious little munchy-munch before supper. It didn't quite go as planned.
Orc, though quite young, did not hatch yesterday (six days before yesterday, to be exact). He was rather quickly presented to, and then swallowed whole by the great, stupid Ridgeback. Well, he decided then and there that he was not to be eaten, and began to climb his way up the long throat tunnel before him, piercing the walls of the esophagus he ascended with very sharp claws.
The Ridgeback was neither prepared for, nor fond of Orcs decision. At once Brainz began to cough and gag, eventually spewing forth the hatchling. Within seconds the larger dragons throat began to swell shut and burn like the fires beneath Grimm's cauldron. He struggled, gasping for precious oxygen, and had Meatwad not had the sense to fetch the Old Witch Marietta, Brainz would probably be dead. Pity.
Orc sat dripping phlegm and blood as he watched the old dragon light a small bag of herbs and blow the smoke into the Ridgback's filthy mouth. When his newly acquired predator once again regained his breath and bared hungry teeth at Orc, he cowered in fear.
"Aye, ye fools! Tis a poison that run through this bab’s veins!" She said, nearly choking herself with laughter. "D’ye ken ole Mari willna save yer hide next time round?" She turned from them then, and bid Orc to follow her. Into her cave he went, listening to her mutter, "Oi lad, yer Mari’s wean now! I’ve me own wee pet!"
