It all started in a void, amongst the stars. Starrun would swim in the vacuum of space surrounded by only the stars. There was a calming peace that always seemed to weave through the cosmos and light flickers in a wide spectrum of colors and yet, there was something was missing. There was a loneliness. She was alone, alone amongst a million stars. How she wished to have a companion. Some one else to enjoy whatever this life is, lazily glide amongst the stars. However, when will that become reality? If it’ll ever be a reality.

It wasn’t long before Starrun’s tides began to change. She found herself falling for the first time in her life. It was a foreign sensation and she didn’t know whether to be delighted or terrified. There was also a heaviness and then crash. She was floating again but there was still weight all around her. She opened her water eyes to find that she no longer swimming amongst the millions of stars but with millions of fish and sea life! There was so much life and now she is among them.

It was surreal. She was almost frozen in place as she felt the soft current. There were so many colors! Colors she's never seen before. The reefs, the fish, the sea turtles; all these creatures are new to her but yet familiar. Like a knowledge she's never knew of had washed over her the moment she hit the water. This is a magical place and she never wanted to leave until she got the urge to go up.

As her head broke the surface, she took her first official breath of air. The soothing scent of the salt water rushed through her lungs. It was invigorating, a new found energy coursed through her veins. It was then she started to swim. There was no place to go but many things to see. She saw life everywhere, a few sailing ships- some friendly merchants, some pirates, and some adventurers; some who asked for her to join them. She happily agreed, the adventure was just too tempting and she wanted to learn more about where she fell to.

There are whispers that cross all over the Sornieth sea,
about a terrifying captain, as beautiful as she is ruthless.
Tales of her exploits spread from those who fear her,
from those who live to tell the tale

Captain's log, 24th of Saturnalia

I have seen a lot in my years, perhaps too much for my age. I have seen war, mutinies, revolutions, and the rise of an Empire; I have what love was and I have seen the effects of it torn asunder. I have seen the first breath a hatchling takes, and I have seen the last of many, many friends.

I thought I'd seen it all, until the Basilisk crossed paths with the... strangest thing yet.

The crags to the west of the Tidelord's territory is as much as home to my crew as home could be, we know the dangers it holds and the price we pay for shelter and trade, and the sight of a harpy attack is none the unusual sight. When Maikoa claimed they were battling Merkin - an allusive breed that would fetch quite the price at the market - I knew the day would be changing our course for many, many years.

What we found was not the rare and beautiful Merkin we had hoped, but something even more... intriguing. It looked like a Mirror, but its hide was much akin to the Mamertee's protective layer, to touch it similar to petting a fish, or an eel. It had no wings, no history, and an awful amount of wonder that would get any other on the open seas killed, even us if we didn't do anything about it. It would have done us better to catch her for trade, whole or as parts.

Their name was Starrun and I took her under my banner.

She was odd. Spoke the stars and the cosmos, of swimming amongst them. She spoke of being alone, terribly alone, in among the vast sea of infinity. Whatever delusion this dragon believed to be true, I could at least understand it was from being so isolated for so long.

My crew, my ship, The Basilisk was a feared name across dragonkind. I plundered and took what I wanted, showed no sign of stopping my reign of mayhem. This I taught to this curious, bumbling hatchling of a dragon: that to be powerful was a priority, but to be cunning and wise would save her from certain doom. I had faith in her when my crew did not, but they feared and respected me to keep quiet. Starrun had potential, and no one was going to steal her from me.

Soon, I realized, this delusioned sea slug taught me a greater lesson than any I had given her.

She took to her duties slowly, but worked diligently. I trained her as my apprentice, and she has learned to use her wingless stature as a weapon. I was proud. She would have become a good member of my ship. No one was going to steal her from me, but Starrun was not something to be kept.

I have held her for too long, and I understood the wanderlust in her bright eyes, still so full of wonder and life. As we docked from a long travel at sea, Starrun said her thanks and bade me farewell.

With her, I left one of my piercings. It is to say, I tell her, that there is always the other side to everything. Keep her on her toes. I gift her the pixie companion she helped us retrieve, keep her from being lonely again.

I tell her, keep my tales alive, and watch her leave into another end of infinity.

Aural sat in her Great Room, at the base of their Shrine Tree. She raised her great head, sensing something unfamiliar had touched the shores of Isla Sombre. Being a stand-alone island in the sea of a thousand currents, that technically belonged to the shadow flight, the Sombre Shade rarely had visitors. And never ones that Aural didn't recognize.

She slowly made her way to the banks of her home, where the sapphire sea touched light gray sand, leaving the thorny vegetation that surrounded the great tree. Her steps were slow and deliberate. They showed her age, but also hinted at a raw, barely contained power. She was huge, a guardian through and through. Her chest heaved with long, even breaths. She had an aura of patience, power, and wisdom.

She found her mark, a wingless drake who laid breathlessly on the shore, water logged and exhausted. She smiled.

"Welcome to the Sombre Shade."

Aural introduced her, Starrun as she was told, to the rest of the clan. Borelus welcomed her with a low nod. Remise glared at her haughtily, from her towering height. But the most interested in her was Verzei.

The mirror stared her up and down before smirking. "I bet you're fast!"

Starrun stayed for awhile, not too long, but just long enough. Most of her time she found herself dogged by Verzei, who wanted to race. Be it in the water that surrounded the isle, or among the roots of the great tree. But never in the air. She never even suggested it. Starrun was always with Verzei, who introduced her to her family. Head guards of the lair, Evo and Alepo, were her father and brother. Her mother was one of the soldiers, who trained dragons of the ilse in combat. They took in Starrun during her stay, and treated her like one of their own.

It was Alepo that eplained the Sombre Shade to Starrun. "We're made up of three parts." He looked up towards the huge branches of the tree. "Magus stays in the treetop. Our magic users and scholars."

He looked out at the edge of the island. "Lethalus stays towards the edge of the isle. Our soldiers, warriors, protectors."

He glanced at the others, the ones who seemed devoted to keeping the clan afloat. "The cooks, the tailors, the armorers, the healers. That's Harmonus. They live at the base of the tree. The roots." he smiled. Alepo looked like an intimidating dragon, but he couldn't be more opposite. He spoke softly, and had a calm demeanor.

It was with Starrun that Verzei met her familiar. They stumbled on a herd of long necked beasts, and chased them down. For the first time, even Verzei had a hard time keeping up! Verzei tackled one, barred her fangs at its throat, but the beast showed no fear. The mirror halted, and let her claws off of it, but it didn't run.

"Skira." She told Starrun. "They're called Skira, and they're a lot of fun to chase!"

They spent a while in the field, with the skira. The one Verzei pinned stayed near her, as if beating it in a race bonded it to her. "I think this means she's my familair now! I'll call her... Noxe!"

Noxe eyed Starrun, then turned and eyed the herd. Slowly, one of the Skira started towards thm. This one was a brilliant blue and purple, unline the others. It's pelt looked like a mottled galaxy. This skira walked right up to Starrun. And at the end of the day, followed her home. Verzei took to calling it "Sympan" Greek for Cosmos.

Verzei and Starrun spent the next few weeks as before, but Verzei could sense what was coming. It was Aural who finally said it.

"I think its time for our darling Starrun to wander again."

Verzei didn't take it at first well, but she eventually calmed. "I'll always have Noxe. And you'll always have Sympan!" she said, with tears in all four of her eyes.

Life exploring and learning, Starrun soon felt herself lonely. She had felt lonely before, but this was different. She had lived her whole life basically without any interaction and now the world is full of beings to talk to and yet still lonely. She was perplexed. What did this mean? And so she went back to the ocean. She felt more comfort there. The cradling of the water, the soft rocking of the waves, the lullabies of the sea breeze was ever so pleasant. She easily falls asleep while the soft current drifts her to her destiny.

When she awoke, she had drifted towards a coast-line. She could see a mouth of a large river emptying out into the sea and the large cliffs along part of the coast. There was even a temple on a single island that was just a ways from the mainland. Must be some interesting folks living there. Curiosity peaked, she started to get closer. Only then did she started to see more life, fires flickered in lanterns, but her eyes quickly went to a dragon that looked like her sitting on the coastline, looking out to sea. His wings tucked close to his body, he wore an interesting mask, and his markings were interesting. It wasn’t until he spotted her that she started to get nervous. It wasn’t a bad feeling but she was unsure how to address him. He quickly stood from where he once sat as she came closer. Starrun was shy, there’s no doubt that the male in front of her was extremely handsome and strong-looking; he could never be interested in a wingless female.

He was so kind. He welcomed her to his home which was different from the others she has seen. The area was created by nymphs. They build this place and Lacuspar, the handsome male, was once their guardian statue who came to being during their time of need. He was a charmer, a flirt even. Starrun couldn’t help but be bashful, so new to these affections. He lead her to the nymph’s bonfire, explaining their Bonfire festival to her and asked if she’d like to join them in the festivities. Starrun excitedly agreed. At a distance the nymphs giggled and cooed as their Lucaspar stayed with Starrun. She even heard them hope that she’d stayed with him. She’d blush when a few would go on about future hatchlings. Of course he’d laugh and tell her to not mind them. Nymphs are always suckers for love.

Starrun slowly started to notice that her feelings of loneliness have started to vanish. It was as if she found where she belonged and even Lacuspar mentioned his own loneliness vanished when he met her. They would talk about everything, sit along the coast by the river to watch the sunsets, wander around the flower fields. They never stated those words that the nymphs were dying to hear. Who knew nymphs were such gossips? Starrun was asked by the elder, Nyomi, what she thought of Lacuspar. Starrun felt her face heat up as she admitted she liked him. Nyomi countered with asking if Starrun loves him. Starrun was unsure. She’s never loved or been in love before, but from what Nyomi told her, it matched every feeling she had for him. She had to ask him if he felt the same.

She was nervous when he walked up to her but gaining courage she proceeded to asking her questions. To her surprise, Lacuspar laughed as he turned towards her and brought her into a gentle embrace. Nyomi had talked to him as well. He smiled down at her and gently kissed her. Thus the beginnings of the Gemini Clan was born.

Hellbender flicks his tongue and stares at the Mirror, narrowing his eyes as he becomes lost in memories, "Oi, something about you seems...familiar, almost...as though I've seen ya before. Maybe as a hatchling, I...? Pff, nah, couldn't be, I'd remember seein' a dragon as hideous as you even if I were just outta my egg. You're probably just makin' me think of all the other idiots what come through these parts, after a while y'all start to meld together in my mind to create one massive moron of a dragon!"
Cupcake squeaks and runs in a circle around Starrun, delighted to know that her suggestion had been helpful, "You're very welcome, ma'am, I'm glad you liked it! Your mate has excellent taste, both in his selection of presents for dragons he loves, and at his choice of life-partner-in-crime! If YOU want to bring HIM back some flowers too, I'd be more than happy to help you find some really good ones!" Her tail is pointing straight up, the tip wiggling with excitement.

Crash, child.
I fell from the heavens.
Not for ill, for good, but for fate:
I came too close, longed
Too sweetly, and the gravitational
Pull of the others bound me down.
I fell,
The stardew tickling my sides,
My eyes captured with the last slices
Of wonder.
Stars above, as so below.
This strange new world, I must live,
I must know.
