RAMSES
"...? ...!!"

7JODsP1.png
“It’s not in any way harmful to say that certain kinds of dragons have specific weaknesses that others do not have. Ridgebacks, for example, are far more susceptible to drowning due to the density of their bodies--hence their breed-wide fear of water--and Faes are prone to fractures due to the inherent brittleness of their bones. Any dragon will freely admit that their specific breed has merits and pitfalls when compared to any other, be it Snappers having an inability to fly or Imperials having a notoriously terrible immune system.

“To ignore these differences is detrimental to the health and wellness of dragonkind. For instance, did you know that Coatls are not only physiologically different in terms of ear and vocal cord structure, but that they have a higher instance of muteness than any other kind of dragon? Most are not even born mute, but lose their ability to talk with time, especially if they’ve spent a lifetime straining themselves to speak common draconic. Now, without this knowledge, how alarming would it be to be presented with a patient who has come to you because they were suddenly stricken with silence? Would you know it was a physical ail instead of a hex, or would you waste your potions and talents trying to rid them of a curse?

“Remember, as healers, it is not only important to know the dragons of your clan, but to know their inherent weaknesses, be they breed-linked or hereditary. You can help protect them from injury, ails, and treat them more efficiently and effectively if you take the time to learn the different physiologies of our kind.”

-- A Healer’s Guide to Physical Wellness, Chapter II

"Yeah, anyone in or out of The Outlanders can tell you than Ramses is the real politician here. Shriek’s cool, sure, but she doesn’t have a talent for leadership or interpersonal communication. She’s good at snap judgments and she’s saved us a couple of times, but, man… look at what a laughing stock we were before Flauros happened. Her idea of diplomacy is to TALK REAL LOUD UNTIL EVERYONE GIVES UP.

“Ramses can’t even talk and he’s more persuasive. Give him a quill and some ink and he’ll negotiate the hell out of a deal. It’s because he thinks first, and he’s grounded, and he has had all the time in the world to listen without being able to interrupt. He’s a ball of nerves, sure, but those nerves are made of steel, and even if it seems like he’s gonna crack, he never does. I’d follow him to the ends of Sornieth before I even thought of following Shriek.

HISTORY
Ramses was a transplant from Dragonhome to the Windswept Plateau, and found himself in the same clan as Shriek during her younger years. Older and more responsible, he often felt the need to keep an eye on the younger, more destructive dragon, which led to Shriek clinging to him as her “best friend.” He provided the only structure she really had and, though it wore on him, he was afraid of what would happen if he wasn’t around to dissuade her from her more adventurous endeavors. It all ended up biting him in the tail when, upon being exiled for destruction of sacred property, Shriek dragged Ramses with her.

Together, they founded The Outlanders. He supposes that’s something.

Though Shriek is the figurehead of The Outlanders, Ramses is the real mind of the operation, often times operating behind the scenes to pave the way for Shriek’s success. The only time she’s managed to outmaneuver him was during The Flauros Incident, when she narrowly beat him to the life-saving answers that stopped a coup and halted Flauros. While some people believe that this is grounds for Ramses to lead in her stead, especially now that public opinion of Shriek is wavering due to her sparing of Flauros, Ramses himself would be the first to attest that he’s ill-suited for the limelight.

He’s nervous, he’s impatient, and he’s mute. Granted, the latter wouldn’t be an issue if The Fifteen didn’t solve all of their problems by yelling over top of each other.

WHISKERS
Whiskers was a gift from Shriek, caught in the wild and arbitrarily given to him because it looked mostly like a cat. At first, Ramses was petrified of her (and petrified to leave his actual cats around her), but with the passage of time, she’s become just as much family as any of his smaller felines. They actually heap themselves on top of her to sleep, and Ramses can often be seen taking her for walks around Outlander territory. She’s a wonderful excuse to get out of his den, which he’d seldom do otherwise.
