The orchard twisted like a maze. Many patrols sought no end to the plentiful fruit, and no matter how zealous the guard, Newbury knew only few of his brethren to be turned away. To receive entry, however, not even his own seed would tell.

From a distance a campfire flickered to his side, soft music accompanying the midnight heat. A feat of the two spirals, he was sure, though this part of the orchard he still found confusing and unfamiliar. He paced further down the path.

He halted himself warily as the line of trees thickened. Deadgrass and foliage blocked the way. Music chimed in the wind behind him. Instinct lead him further than he was told, but he felt it beyond. A pull. He had no doubt this marked the border.
