History
- - - Like all in her family, Rumor was born with inherent mentally manipulative magic. As a hatchling, the strength of her power did not truly show. But, somehow, she always managed to be right and always managed to get her way. Those around her simply chalked it up to Rumor being incredibly perceptive, and maybe just the slightest bit spoiled. As she grew older, however, her full power began to manifest more readily. Rumor made no extra attempt to use them, but her speech began to manipulate not only minds, but reality. If she made something up, it always had a nasty habit of turning out to be true in the end. It didn't take long for rumors of Rumor's power to spread throughout the clan. Here was a fae, still a child in the eyes of most, with enough magic to manipulate the world without study and proper spells. It became quickly apparent why everything she said seemed to be true: because she had made it true.
Luckily, perhaps, the full extent of Rumor's power could never be examined. One night, Rumor's family was awoken by her sister's screams as Rumor shook her awake, covered in her own blood. In their panic, nobody ever noticed that Rumor's father was late to arrive to the scene of the carnage.
Rumor's cut throat healed, but her voice never returned. Whoever had attacked her had done so with not only a blade but with magic, using an unknown seal or charm on her voice to banish the traces of words she could still produce with her scarred vocal cords. Her magic went with her ability to speak, leaving her mute and powerless. She had come to depend on her manipulations and her pain and loss embittered her.
Rumor has no true role in the clan presently, and will sometimes disappear for days or weeks on end doing who knows what. Most don't notice the drops of blood that stain her cloak when she returns, but... rumors spread quickly.


Personality
- - - Rumor is rather humorless and most of her interactions are rather terse and cold. She struggles to maintain meaningful relationships with almost anyone following her "accident," and doesn't publicize the few connections she has. Her isolated nature and somewhat rude communications lead to the conclusion that she has skin as thick as stone and a heart made of similar material, which she doesn't mind. What she does mind are the whispers that follow everywhere she goes, quiet words of fear or disgust, or simply false tales about her. She minds the way that the young members of the clan, and some of their parents, too, gape at the ugly scar on her neck whenever it peeks over the ribbon or tie she covers it with, especially when they act as if everything is normal the minute she turns to face them. However, she refuses to let any emotion show that would make her seem weak, because the only thing worse than horror is pity.
