Biography
■
pestilentia plague representative | ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ |
There’s something fascinating about disease and the way it mutates. It adapts to almost any environment, becoming precisely what it needs to become to survive, and it has no qualms about the creatures it takes as its victims in the process. Disease is ruthless and efficient, and Pestilentia admires that.
Less admirable, though, is perhaps the number of patients it causes to end up at her door, on the verge of breathing their last. She much prefers to see dragons alive, thank you very much.
It’s been like this since she was young. Raised by a clan full of healers, some more reliable than others, she was never a strange to death and decay. Survival, too, was a regular part of her life, between the patients that clung so fiercely to life, and the healers who fought to keep their clan afloat in a changing world. She grew up running between cots carrying bandages and tonics in her teeth, and she used to play in the empty wards with the other hatchlings, shooed away in the wake of a major injury.
Once, when she was old enough to be trusted in such a delicate matter, she helped her parents through a series of surgeries that came in the wake of a violent battle between clans. She saw more blood and bone in those days than she had ever seen in her life, and somehow, she still wanted to be a part of it all.
Pestilentia devoted herself to learning all she could about dragon anatomy and the ills that could befall it. She read voraciously, long into the night, and begged her parents to allow her to observe their proceedings, no matter how strained. Life and death were two equally important sides of the same coin, and she needed to understand both.
But she also came to understand that disease was not limited to the Scarred Wasteland. Her parents did great work there, of course, but it was not enough for the whole of Sornieth. Others were out there, probably suffering. Many probably had diseases yet to be studied. The world had vast potential, and Pestilentia could not set that aside. With a parting gift from her parents, a full healer’s kit, she left the Plaguebringer’s lands behind to see what else ravaged the world.
How she ended up staying in the Sunbeam Ruins for so long is beyond her, but she is beginning to think there is something unusual afflicting her coven. Magic and death are closely tied here, almost infectiously, and between her devotional duties to her deity, she spends much of her time studying that strange relationship.
