Thoughts:

▸Zulily: An example of what every guard should strive to be, a role model, with the ideals of a hero and strength to match. Couldn’t ask for a better mother.

▸Fell: Brother, has a great sense of humor and doesn’t mind silence. Everyone loves him and for good reason, he’s a good person.

▸Atney: Helpful to his fellow guard, but likes to distance himself from people who know him too well. Too ambitious to ever be happy with himself.

▸Leoven: Familiar and calming, he is awkward and often fumbles his words but there are few people who would make a better friend.

▸Odette: She’s the newest recruit, reckless with little regard for rules. Awful guard, fun person.

Kenryn is viewed by others in a similar way to their mother, intimidating, stern, and menacing. Many consider them frightening and the type of person to avoid when possible.

Most people don’t call them Kenryn, most who know them will either refer to them as ‘Ken’ or ‘Ryn’, never both. Even their mother does not call them by the full ‘Kenryn’, nor do they introduce themself by Kenryn.

Raised by a Paladin and by the guards garrison, Kenryn has never known life as a civilian. Separated from the general public, the Kingdom looks upon them with confusion, fear, and no small amount of distrust. While Zulily has earned her place within the Kingdom, despite her menacing presence, Kenryn is not offered the same space as their mother is. Due to this, Kenryn is used primarily to help other guards rather than to assist the public, seeing as traders, travelers, and even shop keeps have been known to be… rather vitriolic towards the young half-elf.

Thoughts:

▸Rawlins: Kind, but he doesn’t know what to expect from others anymore.

▸Ramsay: Intimidating, he has too much presence and self-confidence to be understandable to normal people.

▸Kinning: He’s new to the area but he seems pretty nice. Upholds Knightly honor as one would expect.

▸Hydrangea: A hard-worker with a promise to keep, seems to be trying to right a wrong.

Thoughts:

▸Jurek: Worshiping the Arcanist, of all Gods, so closely is… odd. Was He not the one who ended previous ages? Twice?

▸Layek: The new Guard Captain, she’s… smart. Conscious of the abilities and best placement of the people beneath her.

▸Keyal: Horrid, spits venom on anyone who isn’t liable to fight back.

▸High Priest: A holy man who is as calm and mysterious as one should expect from a chosen of the Shadowbinder.

Biography

There is no part of Kenryn that remembers a home outside of the Blue Kingdom, their mother having sought shelter there when they were still very, very, young. With Valenin as King, Vinren as queen, and the guards in the barracks as their family, Kenryn grew from just a hatchling into a trainee in the guard. Kept close by Zulily, Kenryn quickly became something of their mother’s shadow, from their behavior, to their beliefs, to the way they spoke, one can not look at Kenryn without seeing a little bit of their mother in everything they do.

This worked out well when Kenryn officially became an apprentice within the garrison, their willingness to work hard and to take on any challenge spoke well of their determination. The thing holding them back from being made a full guard as early as Fell? As Atney? Kenryn had spent so much time around guards, around their mother, that they had very poor skills interacting with the public. Often leading to misunderstandings or heightened stress for the subject they were trying to help. This difficulty with speaking caused Kenryn to remain an apprentice much longer than necessary, Alusair unwilling to promote someone who could escalate a problem as surely as they could handle it. Thankfully for Kenryn, they weren’t the only one that Alusair was refusing to make full guard, Leoven was also struggling with his awkwardness in interacting with other people. Both of them unallowed to work alone, but older than apprentices should be, they were often put on patrols together which led to a quick and easy friendship.

Kenryn had come to terms with their spot in the guard when the bandit attack happened, stirring up the barracks in a way they had never expected. Alusair had betrayed them, and they now had a new Captain of the Guard. Things changed immediately, suddenly they were not being treated like a child anymore, Layek sending them out on solo tasks as surely as any of the other guards… and she actually seemed to recognize how willing Kenryn was to go above and beyond in their duty. With their mother now a member of the royal guard, along with several of the senior members, suddenly Kenryn was placed into a more important role as a gate guard… something they seem to be very pleased about if how busy they keep is any indication.

Personality

Isolated is a very good way to put it, due to their fearsome presence and awkward nature Kenryn has trouble connecting or speaking with people outside of the guard. Often being met with suspicion or hostility when they try, leading to them becoming very reserved and quiet around civilians. Distrustful of normal people, and inexperienced in communication, Kenryn doesn’t understand the world of people outside of the guard and has trouble empathizing with them.

Quiet, shy, they know better than to speak up in most cases and tend to try to blend into the background when possible. While they seem to crave being around other people, quickly becoming lonely, they are too used to negative reactions to their presence in order to attempt to make more friends than they currently have. As much as Kenryn would love to meet new people they are too afraid to say anything to people they aren’t already close with.

Personality

A workaholic, Kenryn is known for being a hard worker and liking to keep themself busy. Need an errand ran? They don’t mind doing it for you, they needed to go out that way regardless, might as well multitask. Kenryn does not like to sit still, and the more appreciated they feel the more they are insistent upon doing. They seem to think that work is they only thing they have to give back, so they rarely ever stop.

Where others may become distant over time, they don’t seem to be aware of time passing in the same way. Kenryn doesn’t mind if you don’t talk to them for a few months, no excuse needed, and it will make no difference in how they interact with others. Ambitions, work, history, may drive other people apart but Kenryn seems to be insistent on not letting that happen to them. They don’t want to end up like Atney and Rawlins.
