Naphaeli swears her first clutch with her mate Vanniel was contaminated. One egg never hatched, the dragon in it had died first. Then one of the twins, Valinda, also passed away shortly after hatching. Naphaeli sent the two remaining hatchlings, Sulora and Tinuvial, to serve under the Arcanist, in hopes that they would be saved.

Her second clutch fared much better. By her third clutch Naphaeli finally accepted that she was shadow touched and was blessed with beautiful new markings. The shadow colored wisps looked like smoke caressing her body. Her hatchlings came out healthier than any she'd ever seen and two bore her markings. Her daughter stayed in the clan to practice shadow magic while her sons left to expand their learning.
