Biography

solar_eater_banner.png

"Solar eaters spend a lot of time in caves, beneath the ground. They don't care much about gold, gems and other treasures; their only desire is a rare mineral called solarite, or solar ore. Millions of years ago, it formed on the world's surface and ore samples absorbed the sunlight, but they are now hidden underground because of disasters, earth movement, and time.

Eaters need this ore in order to live. Solarite is the only thing they can properly feed on. Physical food like meat or seafood only saves their bodies from starving, but only solar ore can save their minds and souls. Their glowing belly indicates their condition, when well-fed with solar energy the eater has a bright, shiny belly, while hungry eaters are much more pale. The hungrier the eater is - the less sane it becomes.

Purely insane (or, as it's a more common belief, soulless) solar eaters don't seek solarite any more. They are afraid of staying in caves and spend all their time in the sunlight. Cloudy weather makes them panic, and long cloudy seasons can even kill them. Insane solar eaters are desperate; the only helpful thing for them would be a piece of solar ore, but they can't get solarite by themselves in this state, and become entierely dependant on their friends or families to survive."

Subspecies Lore by atropo

Cinders knew a thing or two about resilience, about digging in and refusing to back down from the struggles life presented. Though dependent on the rare ore solarite for her survival, she had never given up hope, never given up searching for it, even when her supplies ran low and she faced the very real threat of losing her mind.

Even so, she was grateful to have found a clan that didn't mind strange dragons like her. That was willing to go to lengths to provide for her.

But she couldn't overlook the pains they went through to procure solarite for her, to preserve her fragile sanity. They had even traded for a lantern from a Light clan which gave off sunlight for the nighttime and cloudy days, and refused to tell her how costly such a thing had surely been. Nor could she overlook the existence of others like her, those who didn't have a such a devoted clan backing them.

Solarite was rare, yes. The knowledge she had been passed down said that solarite supplies were slowly dwindling, as the Lightbringer's pure light no longer shone all over the world to create it. But, she wondered, with the recent upsurge in elemental energies, would it be foolish to think that maybe more deposits had been created? Or that she could at least begin to set up infrastructure for others like her, to aid those lost to their solarite cravings in returning to a more lucid state of mind?

Of course, she could hardly accomplish such a thing on her own. And she couldn't ask her clan, who had already done and given so much for her, to give even more.

But, as she wandered through the festival stalls set up on the shore nearest the new volcano and happened upon a group of dragons wearing orange handkerchiefs hawking a group that called themselves the Trail Blazers, a group that prided itself on helping clans all around Sornieth "discover the undiscovered"...

She thought that perhaps she might have found the allies she needed.
