  • Generally kindhearted and understanding.
  • Very much in love with Willa, but is willing to respect her wishes when it comes to her later admittance that she doesn't love him.

History
One. That’s the number of gulls that are overhead. It calls out a lonely cry as it flies deeper inland.
Two. Dragons walk along the beach, their feet just in the waves as they walk on the edge of the shore.
Three. That’s how many paces are between them. A world of distance where there used to be none.
Four. Four times, that’s how many times the dragoness had sighed on this walk. The dragon was counting.
Five. milliseconds before he snaps, “Can you stop that?”
Six. Heartbeats, six of them, pass as the next wave rolls in and crashes around their feet.
Seven. Seven clouds skitter across the sky, two, small, white ones are huddle together at the horizon line, as if scared of their five larger, grey brothers.
Eight. Raindrops fall on the dragon’s nose and he looks up, expecting it to start raining any second now. Another drop splashes into his eyes, making it…
Nine. the silver and brown dragoness looks over, her eyes dull. She doesn’t know what to say. Things just aren’t working out. The dragon presses closer to her and they stop walking. Both let the rain fall around them as they sit there, the waves pulling sand out from around their feet. Like it wants to take them out to sea.
Ten. The dragon feels that many heartbeats, his own and the dragoness’, before he says the eleven simple words that will throw him to those waves.
Eleven. “Willa, this isn’t working. Can we go back to being friends?”
The dragoness looks out at the stormy waves, feeling like she’s already been dragged out there.
Twelve. As the waves pull out again, stones slip out from beneath her claws. Her claws that dig into the ground. She feels every stone return to the sea and counts each one, getting to twelve before she closes both eyes.
Thirteen. “If we can go back to that, Perseverance, we will. But I need some time to think, alright? Please?”
Perseverance looks over at her, silently asking how much.
“Days. Give me thirteen days.”
1, 2, 3…6, 7, 8…11, 12, 13.
It’s only then that they notice they’ve been counting every heartbeat, every thought, every wave. Counting…
