___The seer has no eyes...

Raldin is the clan's second most powerful seer. It is generally given that the queen is his superior in that regard, though he sometimes sees things which she does not. He has powers beyond just his Sight and can use magic to conjure up spirits and other entities from places of power on Sornieth, as well as from other planes. Some of these entities are very powerful indeed. Though he favors a fearsome and grim spirit as his familiar, it is far from the only such creature he may be seen to hold communion with.

He sometimes works with the dragon called "Binder" to summon spirits, bind demons, and even speak with the dead. The two of them brought the demon Michaelis into the clan, and they seek to determine the nature of the strange echo which seems to haunt the shadowed corners of the Keep and Clifftown.
Under the grim mask, his face is disfigured. Both eyes were long ago cut out of his head with some crude implement, insufficient for a proper surgery. He is competent at navigating familiar spaces, and can typically manage a slow, cautious pace anywhere he pleases, even unassisted if he has to. Even so, he does not typically venture very far without Loughrey.

___An ancient library was claimed by the sea...

There is a story that Raldin sometimes tells, usually to travelers or hatchlings, about a young prince and a young magician. In this land each ruler was served by a magician who was faithful to the crown. The magician was meant to help guide his prince to greatness, and when his prince was king, he would be the court wizard.

But a long forgotten evil residing below the earth stirred in its sleep and caused terrible upheaval in the land. The prince became king before his time, and as king, he would have to fight the evil as it rose to devour the land. The wizard knew that if the king fought, then he would die.
The wizard felt he could not allow this, and so in defiance of the fates, he sought a different answer. He left the king's side and told the king's most trusted guard to guide the king while he was away. In the story, he seeks out an ancient library that he was sure would provide the wisdom necessary to save the king. It was a grand quest, for the library had long ago been claimed by the sea

It was kept by the Sunken Things, who hoarded and protected the books and their collective knowledge at the bottom of the sea. And the library was so large that it extended forever downward into deeper and deeper abyssal darkness. In order to access the necessary tomes, he had to make a deal with the Sunken Things which served as its librarians. The Sunken Things were the only ones who were permitted to lay their eyes upon the pages which contained hidden and forbidden knowledge, so in order to be allowed to look at the books, he too would have to be as they were. 		raldin.png
The wizard agreed, but only if he would be permitted to return to his king for a single day so that he could use the knowledge gained and save the king's life. The Sunken things permitted him to do this, and placed a spell over his eyes so that he could read their books and become as they were.

When the wizard returned, he was able to preserve the king's life as the king defeated the evil which threatened the land. The wizard admitted that he had to return to the library, and told his king of the agreement and the spell upon his eyes. The guard, hearing the story, grabbed his knife and slashed out the wizard's eyes, breaking the spell the Sunken Things had placed upon the wizard.

Sometimes the evil is imagined to be a monstrous Emperor by those who listen to him tell the tale. Some guess that the library must be in the darkness of the Leviathan Trench. He does not suggest otherwise.

He is only occasionally asked if the story is about himself. He replies that it is not.

What he does not say is that, in his mind, the story is about the guard who slashed out the wizard's eyes.
