Silbern is a Dreamer, a mage that is specially attuned to the world of dreams that inhabits his mind. As a Dreamer, Silbern has unusual clarity and control within his dreams, as well as the ability to interact with others as they sleep. Silbern is able to produce and take dreams from others, to observe the world around his sleeping body, and to interact with spirits that vibrate at frequencies only attainable in a dreaming state. Within his dreams, Silbern can define much of what reality is such as altering the flow of time or changing the laws of physics. Silbern has even been able to dream within his own dreams.

Silbern enjoys meditation and sleeping as much as he can because of his natural affinity for dreaming. As a result, most see Silbern as a lonely hermit living in the small grove that has grown at the bottom of the clan. But, Silbern is never really alone. Silbern is in almost constant communication with both various spirits and the sleeping individuals of the clan. Since the Breach closed over a year ago, the spirits and dreams have rstabilized into the periodic rhythm of life. Silbern is far more comfortable in the clan, but his activities still leave little time for socialization outside of his dreams.

Silbern has found a lot of interest in Arnskar's daughter Shira as well. Shira is an artificially created spirit, and a very powerful one at that, so Silbern has been in repeated contact with her throughout his time in the clan. Silbern finds Shira very intriguing because she is unlike anyone he has ever met before. As a spirit, Shira is very symmetrical, for a lack of better words. As a Dragon, Shira has a perspective that few but dreamers have.

Silbern has pioneered, alongside Stein, a method of instantaneous communication over huge distances without the need for massive telegram lines or huge amounts of magic. This method of communication is called an Ansible. The Ansible is a device that combines Silbern's ability to project his mind over a distance with Stein's connection to spiritual realms. The result is a communications device. However, the Ansible will currently only function under two different circumstances. Firstly, the device needs a second Ansible, or a similar device, with a definite location known to the first, with the capacity to receive the message on the other end. Otherwise, another dreamer may also receive the message if they are dreaming at the correct frequency along the path of the Ansible's transmission.

Stein and Silbern had also been seeking an unauthorized method to close the Breach beneath the Quarry before it closed on its own during the Bounty of the Elements. The area had been sealed with powerful magic that Silbern could not physically or mentally circumvent, however. Stein was willing to open the shields to allow Silbern closer so that Silbern could dream near the Breach and peer within. The hope was that Silbern could divine a method to close the rift, but they didn't need to risk themselves in the end.

At times, Silbern finds himself in the dreamscapes of those far beyond the boundaries of the Quarry. Though Silbern may passively interact with the dreams of others nearby, he can sometimes connect with those that are far more remote. He has, at times, found himself in a forest alongside a dragon named Irene as she soothes a great beast. At other times, Silbern has found himself alongside far off dreamers or mages attempting to deepen their own dreams. Rarely, Silbern gets a glimpse of something else. A deep ocean and its crushing darkness. Dreams loud enough to split Silbern's skull. And, sometimes, there is just a hound chasing a hare.

With the Veilspun revealing themselves to the wider world, Silbern had felt it was time to reveal his real skin. Bereft of his illusions, Silbern came before the clan as his true self, a Veilspun hidden in plain sight. Though the clan was surprised, and some fearful for having been deceived so long, Silbern's reputation has not been soured.
