TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE
A Light Subspecies
Unlike other Eclipse dragons, Total Lunar Eclipse dragons are not naturally occurring, instead created through a magical ritual performed under the light of a total lunar eclipse. There are conflicting stories surrounding the origins of the very first Total Lunar Eclipse dragon.Some say the subspecies springs from a genetic mutation caused by the mysterious shade of the Hewn City. Others argue that a fertility spell was negatively charged by the eclipse. Still others insist a disgraced imperial created these dragons while experimenting with blood magic. Whatever the truth, both the ritual and the history of this subspecies is heavily guarded by the Total Lunar Eclipse dragons.
Due to the secrecy surrounding their creation, Total Lunar Eclipse dragons tend to keep to themselves, forming small, close-knit clans comprised completely of their subspecies. If you spot a lone Total Lunar Eclipse, it is likely to be a newly-made journeyman that has ventured from the safety of its birth clan to hone its craft, after which it will return home. These dragons display magical inclinations with an emphasis on physical spells and potion-making. The secrets of their craft is recorded in large tomes passed down from generation to generation, enchanted in such a way that only a Total Lunar Eclipse can read the writing on the pages.
Outside of the travelling journeymen, most interaction with outsiders takes place in the markets and bazaars where they hawk their wares. A stall run by a Total Lunar Eclipse is sure to be overflowing with charms, spells, enchanted items, and poisons. These dragons take their business very seriously, seeing it as a matter of their personal honor. Among this subspecies, to renege on an agreement is the most reprehensible action a dragon can take, one punishable by exile.
