Background:

Ludwig was brought to the clan by former clanmate Rakshasa who had been nursing ambitions of rebellion and power. The two formed a devious partnership, through which they planned a coup of Kolmogorov's leadership. Despite Kolmogorov's best efforts, Ludwig and Rakshasa eventually succeeded with the help of several powerful allies they had gathered in the clan.

For a brief period of time, Ludwig and Rakshasa ruled over the clan, determined to build up their might and begin campaigns of conquest. However, some of their own had other plans. The witch Imperial Fimbulvetr, daughter of Versaria, was discovered to have been trying to raise an Emperor, using the corpses of dragons who were thought to have been exalted to the Tidelord's ranks. Having been outed early, Fimbulvetr murdered her twin brother and associate Bragollach, attempting to complete the unfinished Emperor and control it.

The abomination horrified all, unifying those who were once enemies in a ferocious and desperate battle for their lives, in which Ludwig was injured grievously and brought to the edge of death. Upon his miraculous recovery, he learned that Kolmogorov had returned with his most loyal followers, and through great sacrifice, including the losses of Lynthali and Dreyser, destroyed the Emperor and saved as many of the dying as possible. In fact, it was Galethon, the one Ludwig feared and loathed the most, who healed him. Ludwig, humbled and shaken by the disaster that nearly claimed his life, has pledged himself to making amends and atoning for his actions. His former mate Rakshasa has departed on self-imposed exile to seek redemption for her deeds.

Now a long time loyalist to Kolmogorov and Galethon, to whom Ludwig has pledged a life debt, he has reintegrated into the clan. His adopted daughter Eilley left with Kolmogorov's nephew Mairon to start a new clan and a new life above the waves, while Ludwig followed his leader and the rest of the clan into their self imposed exile in the abyss. He is still a powerful sorcerer and is often called upon to assist in maintaining the magical defenses of the clan. Otherwise, he keeps to himself, fearful of Edolwyn who bears a burning and undying grudge for his past crimes.
