Misren

My name is Misren. I was... born of shadow, under the Shadowbinder, but I was given away at a young age. I don't remember much of those times... but I think about it often.

Mother Astaral cares for us, here, in the Scarred Wasteland. By "us" I mean all the other dragons she's taken into her care, most of us hatchlings at the time, others grown and needing a home. Though she's brought us to a land where only the strong survive, she protects us from all, as does Father Ankarv.

They aren't from here any more than I am. They were born born and raised under the Arcanist, but they left. Why? I don't know. Mother Astaral isn't willing to speak of it, from what I've seen. I don't think it's about the lands itself... I think it's the Flight, specifically. Or something like that, maybe the Arcanist... I'm not sure.

The others are often content with this, with life as it is. I don't know if I am. I love my clan, but I question our life here, and maybe even life in general. I know some of the history of the world, but there's more, so much more, things surrounding the Arcanist's Observatory and the Pillar of the World that the Earthshaker guards. Or does he merely live there?

I've been in scavenging parties since I was old enough to learn how to fight, sometimes with Mother Astaral, sometimes with Coda and Mirunes, the siblings adopted the same day I was. We're friends, the three of us, but I will never share their bond, and they will never share my curiosity.

In the rubble and underbrush and caves where we hunt, we find treasures and objects of all kinds, and some of them... some are not dragonmade. And they don't match any of the other species, either. Things like masks made for flat faces, parchment with unfamiliar symbols hidden in intricate cases, scraps of fabric and even clothing made for bodies I've never seen before... it makes me wonder. There's more to this world than I or any of my clanmates know. Except I think Astaral knows, at least a little bit. Our Mother and caretaker, keeper of secrets.

I'll learn more, someday. I'll know.
