Vaida

Vaida is very good at finding what she wants, and even better at getting it. A smooth operator, the ruthless Guardian is persuasive, charismatic, capable of thinking several steps ahead while playing a long game and grasping every opportunity she sees to start setting up a new scheme. She is quite patient, but also very proud; she is loath to admit to being incorrect or at fault, and quickly loses her temper if she is defied.

Vaida arrived in Dragonhome after hearing rumor of a rapidly-growing crime syndicate; she had dabbled in the Plague realm's cutthroat underworld many times in the past and was eager to get a proper cut of the action. She quickly integrated herself into the group and made herself invaluable with her keen eye and mind. In time Vaida was made a member of its inner circle, planning and organizing its heists and other operations. Many of the Hydra Scorpions' most critical assets are left in her care, carefully hidden away in her own small lair.

Once, when the gang was based in the Diabase Demesne, she presented herself as merely a simple tailor, but she now boasts her own apparel shop. In a den carved from the side of a hill, on the edges of a small clan's territory beside that of the Demesne, Vaida sells and repairs apparel- and guards the passage to the concealed caves beneath. These isolated caverns hold within them the true base of operations of the Hydra Scorpions, where they store valuables until they can be moved elsewhere, can safely assemble their rank and file underlings, and host other malefactors they want to do business with. Her mate Basalt's antiquities dealership is her place of retreat from the rigors of a day's criminal work, as Basalt's status as one of the bosses of the Scorpions is a tightly kept secret, and only the inner circle are allowed to call on Vaida and her mate in this private shop.

She loves the feeling of being powerful and in control, but being famous or overtly important is not one of her goals. While her minions may give her the respect she's owed and fear her wrath, Vaida sees no need for outside criminals to know her relevance. She knows her power, and that's enough for her. Let Basalt seem the sole boss and Almedha be the public face of the syndicate; Vaida's content working behind the scenes, pulling strings and calling the shots without directly giving the orders.

The Guardian is very good at networking, and when off of work puts this skill to use for selfish reasons that have nothing directly to do with the Scorpions. Vaida loves to attend social gatherings and the like with no Scorpion strings attached, where she can forge connections with dragons from all walks of life. She'll give her targets advice, encouragement, and flattery, paying particular attention to those who seem especially skilled and likely to rise in prominence. Through correspondence, gifts, and guidance she carefully cultivates friendships with very noteworthy dragons, friendships that can be reaped for great rewards later without drawing her into the spotlight, with all of the scrutiny and scandal that can bring.
