Dreamer
For the longest time I shut myself away from the world, lost in my studies, caught up in wonder for the greater universe beyond Sornieth.
Then my dreams changed everything...
My favourite dreams always involved flying among the stars. Not like I ever did back on Sornieth, as high as I could manage. Soaring so high I had to hold my breath and merely pretend to be among those celestial bodies. As one of the Starlight Gems, it's in my blood - that need to be among the stars and part of the constellations. That's what my parents tell me. They're just dreams for me though, not memories. The Starlights are primarily reborn on Sornieth when we need to recharge our power. We make the most of this opportunity for new study and magical experimentation before we're destined to join the stars again. Then we take our place to bolster protective, celestial runes in line with each major constellation. Sometimes, however, as in my case, a brand new Starlight is born. As soon as I've learned all Sornieth has to teach me, meeting my full potential for this first cycle, only then will I be among the stars. For now, I love my studies. I do wonder if they have books up there. My parents insist I enjoy my first journey on Sornieth rather than focus on what it's like to be one of the runic constellations. Still...The starlight in me aches to join those celestial runes. |
Then my dreams...changed. From my treasured personal library in Lanternlea Port I'd pause in whatever I'm working on. The book, the topic of study varies from dream to dream, but the pause.... It's always filled with the heavy silence that comes from a thick blanket of fresh snow at three in the morning. Then, one flake at a time, flurries dance their way down all around me until they're everywhere. An occasional breeze swirls them in filigree designs through the room. As I exchange wonder for worry about water damage, I am instantly transported to a beautiful cavern of ice crystals. Light prisms everywhere, auroras overhead outside. I always wake still hearing the song, feeling its call like a compulsion. Without a doubt I know I am meant to go South, ready to being the first true steps of my journey. Destiny awaits. |
The Starlight Gems
Hatched during Starfall Celebration 2017, Lacerta was won in a 2023 Raffle with some apparel, a scene, bio layout, and lore. She was named for a constellation bordering Andromeda (mother's name), sometimes referred to as "Little Cassiopeia" (Maternal Grandmother). She is the only remaining hatchling of the subspecies creator's first official nest years before they ever got some of the lore out of their head and into the game. Lacerta is the first finished bio in the subspecies as well, lore filled out even before her own parents! This subspecies is based on the idea that celestial gems once impacted Sornieth, most breaking apart in the atmosphere and fusing with ancient species all over the world. In studying this phenomenon, it was eventually learned these individuals had unique abilities and when they died, they were reborn with that same spark. This led to later magical discoveries that enabled these spirits to periodically rejoin the stars. They do so with runes fashioned in the likeness of major constellations to ward off the Shade and help shield Sornieth from cosmic dangers. |
