Barry had always felt lost in the lands of his birth-clan, like something was missing, some unexplained emptiness in his heart, his soul, that made him ache for more. He wasn't sure he'd ever find that more, though, or if he'd always be stuck in the same place, never moving forward, never finding what he knew he was missing. It was like static in his veins, running through his scales, a never-ending current that beckoned him to fly, to run, Barry, run.

It's only when he saw Len and Lisa stealing from a booth in the auction house that he finally felt alive, felt the circuit inside him complete, and in a flash of lightning, he had the stolen merchandise away from the thieves and the two of them out of the auction house all together. Lisa had been ready to kill, but there was recognition in Len's eyes, an awe in his gaze, and a spark passed between Barry and the thief, the ache of emptiness in Barry's soul filling, when the Pearlcatcher spoke his name.

Barry's speed is unmatched by any dragon in the Brightclaw, so fast that the air crackles with static electricity behind him, something that wouldn't happen to a normal dragon born in the Lightweaver's land. But Len assures Barry that it's normal for him- that Barry, Len's Scarlet Speedster, is meant to run with the lightning, no matter what element he's born of. Despite having met Len while he was stealing, Barry trusts the Pearlcatcher with his life, something deep in his soul telling Barry that Len wouldn't hurt him- that Len has a good heart, beneath all his bluster.
