Fred is the kind of dragon who doesn't care what anyone else thinks. She's the kind to shave off her mane, and after seeing her father, Harlan's, reaction (not good), impulsively breedchange herself to a Pearlcatcher and shave off her mane again.

After that particular stunt got her kicked out, she picked up a part-time job dusting shelves at Kettelson's general store. Over time, she took on more and more responsibilities to the point where she was practically running the place. Shortly after this, Kettelson handed over the keys and she was literally running the place. She does a much better job running it than the old Bogsneak ever did, and at least partly to spite her dad who wanted all his children to be warriors, like him.

Fred doesn't talk to Harlan anymore, but does try to keep in contact with her younger siblings, all but one of which also left home under less-than-ideal circumstances.
