Paean is, by nature, a trickster. He is great with close up magic and sleight of hand. He frequently tricks the dragons they meet within the city and in the kingdom. His card tricks, flashy fingers, and charming smile are all the perfect distraction for a swindler. He runs all of his cons with his wife, Epione, and together, they bring in over half of the profit for the clan. Melanion pretends he doesn't know where to money comes from. They always run short cons and make sure they never hit the same dragon twice.

backstory
Paean was a well known mage and swindler. He was known for ravaging the continent, but no one was ever able to pin him down or prove his crimes. That is, until they did. Paean was caught in a lie and forced to stand trial before a king. The king sentenced Paean to over two hundred years of service as a court wizard. Paean was appalled by the punishment. It was unfair and ridiculous. Paean pledged that before his sentence was up, he would kill the king and all of the nobles. At first, Paean wasn't exactly sure how to do that, but then he found a strange spirit dragon. He promised he would release the dragon from the spirit world if they helped him kill the king and the nobles. The spirit dragon made quick work of killing all the nobles and the king. Paean, for the first time in his life, kept his end of the deal and performed a ritual to release the dragon from the spirit world. The dragon was released and introduced herself as Epione, a very spiritual and reclusive dragon. It was love at first sight. So, Paean and Ep began their business of being conmen.

Paean is one of the mages for the empire. He specializes in lightning magic and illusionary magic. On top of that, he helps Kisai to strengthen the magical wards around the borders of the empire. He is good at many types of magic. He can do pretty much everything from combat, to wards, to fun parlor tricks. He is a well rounded and highly skilled mage.
