Gabriel was the best. He knew this, because he had never been caught. He got in, and he got out, and he was never seen. A master thief. So how, he wondered, had he been found? Not by the authorities, but by a mysterious lady who only went by O. He had found the recording upon returning from the ashfall waste, where he had found some rather valuable items. The disk had been sitting on his table, as if it belonged. Along with a player for it.

The lady had offered him a job, steal the ‘Arcanist’s orb’. Gabriel had heard of this gem. It was believed to be a gift from the gods themselves. It provided knowledge to those who touched it. Which is why it had been locked away deep underground. Nobody knew where. It would be stupid, foolish, to accept. But Gabriel was the best. And he was going to prove it.

A week later, Gabriel found himself heading towards arcane lands. The recording had included a location. Upon reaching it, Gabriel saw nothing. It seemed like an empty patch of land. Lots of rocks, but not much else. Turning to walk away, Gabriel heard a scratching sound. Turning that way, he saw some rocks had been knocked off a ledge, but by who?

Suddenly a weight settled on top of him, causing him to freeze.

“Hello” a soft varicella said, “you’ll be needing this.”

With that, an earpiece fell by him, the kind used for communications. Gabriel turned to look at the lady, but by then she was gone. He huffed and picked the price of technology up. Might as well.

She was there, and she told him that he would need to go farther out. To the very edge of the territory, where it touched the wasteland. He was told to be careful.

Like he needed someone to tell him that. The enterance to the place was under an outcrop of stone. Upon entering, the motions became familiar. This was just another job. Gabriel found a corner and waited, then when a guard came by, he knocked him out, stealing his uniform. He would use the excuse of being new if anybody caught him where he wasn’t supposed to be. Deeper and deeper he went. Eventually the uniforms started changing, and Gabriel had to switch. Then he ran into a problem. The guards were no longer of a flight, but rather it seemed that someone had hired members of the beastclans. It became a routine of avoid and attack. Quick, efficient, sudden. He had to put his skills to good use.

After a while, Gabriel stopped running into trouble of any sort. And there was the orb, sitting in a glass case, it seemed to easy. But hey, he was quick. The case didn’t lift up, so instead of wasting time, Gabriel just broke it. He snatched the orb and ran.

Exept, it wasn’t a blind sprint, no, for some reason Gabriel seemed to know exactly where to go, how to move. It had to be the rock he heald. It told him what would be safe. It told him more than that though. It told him he’d be found. That his home was no longer safe. It told him Olivia, or O, as she had called herself, was a good ally to have. It told him to hide in the shadows. So much in so little time was overwhelming. When Gabriel finally got out, he took off straight to shad territory. He’d be safe there. The voice in his ear asked where he was going. He said follow and see.
