Aurealis is a follower of the Icewarden, thankful of him for gifting her with this life. She is kind, wary, and careful, very aware of her best friend, Adelaide's fate of becoming an ice sculpture. Due to this, Aurealis has lead a very lonely, sad and secluded life, since Adelaide became a sculpture, the playfulness of her hatchling self drained out of her. Ever since Adelaide changed, not even Aurealis' Snowflake Nymph could crack a smile out of her. It was as if she had turned into a ice sculpture, too. She had looked after her friend like a sister, so naturally, when she was taken away, she changed, too. |

January 4, 2018 The clan bustled with activity, and I could tell Aurealis was excited. It was the big day. The clan was looking to adopt more dragons. Aurealis had dreamt of this day for many months now, after I'd told her the clan usually adopted more in the beginning of each month. She was nearly bouncing in excitement, her crown lopsided and nearly falling off. As the group moved into the Auction House, Aurealis glanced at each dragon, wanting them all. I fluttered next to her, reminding her that she could only choose one. After some sifting and searching, Aurealis' gaze landed on a tiny wildclaw, born that very day. She was of the ice clan, which I heavily approved of. Her body and wings looked as hard as rock, and sparkled in the light. Hard gemstones cluttered her body. I had no idea why she chose the wildclaw, of all dragons- she didn't look cuddly at all! But, seeing the longing look in Aurealis' face, I agreed. That night, the hatchling decided to name herself Adelaide. January 14, 2018 About a week had passed since we had adopted Adelaide. Aurealis taught her how to walk, fly, and talk, looking after her and hardly letting other dragons even glance at her. She played with Adelaide a lot, too. That girl was the joy of her life. Aurealis treated her like her own daughter and sister. While she played, I entertained myself to try to learn to read, a process I found both tedious and boring. I could always just ask the clan librarian, Ophy. I loved to hear Aurealis laugh. It made my day every time. February 3, 2018 Something was up with Adelaide. She was hardly eating, and seemed to have lost her hatchling bounciness. This worried Aurealis to a great extent, though I calmed her. Adelaide was just maturing into a young adult...right? February 13, 2018 Adelaide hardly plays anymore, which saddens Aurealis. I don't understand what's wrong, though. Adelaide has lots of friends, as many dragons love her. She has everything she could ever want, but she just sits at the edge of the cave, watching and listening intently. What is going on? I hate to see her in this state, because it saddens both me and Aurealis. February 33, 2018 Nowadays, Adelaide sits quietly outside the lair, murmuring softly to herself about guarding the lair. I don't understand her, anymore, and Aurealis has changed too. Against my suggestions, she too, has seated herself next to Adelaide, who barely registers her presence. She tries to get Adelaide to notice, to lure the old Adelaide out. Sometimes, I feel like she's very close, since I spark goes up in Adelaide's eyes- When this happen, Aurealis' eyes light up too, as if the only thing she cares about is Adelaide. I heard the rumors about Adelaide from the start. Her parents were Ice sculptures. I should of told Aurealis, before we adopted her. Maybe then, we would've adopted another hatchling. Maybe now, Aurealis would still be herself. Just thinking that makes me feel guilty, though. Who am I to control who the clan adopts? I'm but a small familiar. I can't deny that Adelaide hasn't made me feel happy before, either. I love her almost as much as I love Aurealis. If only there was a way to change Adelaide. Maybe rid her of the Ice Sculpture curse. The only thing I can do, I realize, is read. Read and wait. I'll force myself through all the books if I have to. I'll do whatever it takes to find a solution, if there even is one. From now on, I'll search. |
