Biography
MISTAKE
To your grave I spoke, holding a red, red rose.
Gust of freezing cold air, whispers to me, you're gone.

"My story? There aren't many who wish to hear of such a tale, really. I'm no storyteller, not like Jewel is, but I can tell you a little about it, I suppose... it's not one of happiness, it's not one of fantasy, and it's not a story for the faint of heart. It's gruelling, nasty and it shows the worst in what this perfect world has to offer. This world is not kind, not nearly as much as your deities wish you to know. But... enough about that. You wanted to know my story, didn't you? You have been warned, so it's only fair, I suppose. Sit down young ones, and I'll tell you." "My story started the same as many others did, with a hatched nest, born to two parents who were given only a few things to their name, but were loved all the same. I don't know what they had wished from me... but before they dragged me off to the auctions as barely a day old hatchling, they told me I was a mistake. And because of it, I was named Mistake, and tossed out without an afterthought. The auctions are not a nice place to be, full of crying hatchlings, growling and snarling adults, familiars who are more feral than tame and greedy merchants why poke and prod at you to see if maybe you'll be fit for them. My hatchmates weren't as lucky as I was, exalted to serve a greater purpose. Let me tell you, it's not as nice as you're told it is. I was there for many nights, barely fed and barely given water. Any food I was given was almost rotten. No one wanted the hatchling called Mistake. At least, until Snapdragon and her mate found me. They brought me into their clan, where I met Jewel and the other dragons here. My time in the auctions, and the new aura of the Tangled Woods had awakened a power within me, and as I grew, something went... oddly. My hands and feet, where there should have been flesh grew out of my skin and into a skeletal frame, my wings and limbs sprouted dark, inky feathers that shined like a stone, and I had large bone growths force their way from my sides. It was painful, and my arms wouldn't stop bleeding. Even now, they continue to bleed, under these bandages. This was when my power started to show itself. Shadows and shades would bend and shift to my will, beckoned to my call whenever I wished. Eclipse had a similar, though weaker power, his own more acidic than mine, but he could still teach me to use it without harming others, to use it to protect. We found some clothing to hide over my... additions, my cloak, hood and the webs that weave over my wings helping somewhat to keep me looking... normal to the other dragons. It was at this time I met Oxidine. She was unique, nothing I'd seen before, even in the auctions where rarely you'd see rare gems of a dragon pop up for extravagant prices. We hit it off well, and before long she'd agreed to become my mate. She did not mind my grotesque look, finding it charming and unique like herself. She called beautiful what others called vile, or a mistake. Even when I had my muzzle scraped down to bone in a fight, she still called me beautiful and stayed with me. Oxidine was not the only one to bring me from my... dark time of self loathing. The young Fae, Shroud. He's what I'd consider my closest friend. He's different, like I am, but his power stems from his lineage, one of great power of the world around us, bending, and shifting it to his will. He's distantly related to the other to we have in our clan who have the same power... but his are stronger, more powerful and versatile. He and I are the proud guards of this clan, and I swear by my name, and the name of my mate, I will protect this place until I can no longer draw breath." |
Spent a lifetime of holding on, just to let go.
I guess I'll spend another lifetime, searching for a new hope.
