"Riley? Come on, it's time to get up." The young Mirror groaned, rolling onto his back. He didn't mind getting up, but this early? It was beginning to wear on him. Even if he loved the physical aspect of his new Faction. "Riley, if you don't get up, I'm going to have to report this to Maple." "I'm up, I'm up." Riley sighed, scrambling to his feet. He did not want to disappoint the warrior Coatl. That was a one-way ticket back to his old Clan, and while he liked it there, he loved it here. The Imperial Glitch stared at him for a moment, before flickering her tail in amusement and exiting his room. Well then. Riley hurriedly donned his armor, before heading to the Fountain, a large empty area within the library where a cheerful fountain bubbled cheerfully. As he approached, he noticed both Maple and Aharon sitting on the fountain's ledge, waiting for him. Oh joy, he thought. I get to get chewed out again for oversleeping. But to his surprise, neither of the Coatls commented on it. "Are you ready to head out on patrol, Riley?" Aharon asked, a fiery glimmer in his eye. Everything about the assassin screamed 'fire', and sometimes Riley doubted his ability to actually fight. But he didn't voice any of this aloud, dipping his head in respect to the older Coatl. "Yes, sir." The three headed out via the cliffside path, each diving off the cliff to allow their wings to catch on the gusts of wind the sea provided them with. Even Riley had no problems with this exit, despite being a Mirror. The forests around the library were... unpleasant, to say the least. Riley had spotted a multitude of things within the shadowy tangles and weeds. A bright-eyed demon had passed through the trees, fixating on him with his colorless eyes. A spirit weaved through the branches, easily keeping up with their group. "There used to be more of them," Aharon had once said, gazing along their path instead of looking at the Mirror. "But nowadays they're either gone, or in hiding. Lheva changed a lot." Riley didn't doubt that. |

"Sometimes I hate this Clan," Riley muttered, picking his way through old books and crumbled rocks. He glanced up every so often, wondering whether the ceiling above would crumble or not. He hoped not, for both his sake, and the sake of the Clan. "Everyone here is so extra. They keep a bird-dragon down in the basement, for Shadowbinder's sake!" As if remembering where he was, and what he was doing, he quieted, glancing around in fear. He shivered, before moving on, doing his best to stick at the corners of the room. A quiet caw interrupted his movements, and he stopped, heart pounding. A young crow sat in the middle of his path, its head tilted in curiosity. The Mirror hissed, gesturing away from him. "Shoo, get out of here." The crow hopped closer, staring up at the Mirror with a questioning look in his eyes. Riley hesitated, before yanking a bead off of his headdress and tossing it towards the bird. The bird crowed triumphantly, reaching forward and grasping the bead before flying off into the darkness. Riley sighed in relief, with every story about Crow rushing through his head. Even if it were only a rumor that the Wildclaw still resided in the library, it was better safe than sorry, right? And what bird in their right mind would want to stay in a place like this? He turned back around, to head back up into the light, when he stopped in surprise. A dark shape stood in his path, feeling darkly ominous in the dim lighting. Riley took a step backwards, fear prickling his skin. The rumors fled back tenfold. The figure tilted its head, reminding him of the crow. "Why.... Why are you down here, young one?" It asked, its voice dull and raspy from disuse. "I- I..." The Mirror stammered for a moment, taking another step back. "I was curious." "Like Crow?" "Er, yeah, I suppose so." Riley said. The figure fell silent, staring at Riley with judging eyes. And then, miraculously, it stepped aside. Riley stepped forward, feeling awkward under the piercing gaze. He slipped up the stairs, and back into the Fountain. That was a close one. But, at the same time, he wouldn't mind returning. |

Notes
-Riley is currently training under Maple. He can be... quite headstrong, sometimes. -He's an 'act first, think later', kind of dragon. -He feels overwhelmed incredibly easily, and his stress often turns into anger. He's had many trips to the Healers before. -He loves puns, especially the more elaborate ones. -Sometimes, on his patrols, he can faintly see a crow following him. It seems to recognize him. -He has never told anyone about his run-in with Crow. |
