The Sorrowful One

The Greek name for 'death', and rightfully so in this case. Than was found in an old room all by himself with a few trinkets to keep him company - a copper pocketwatch, some relics, and an old music box. Nobody knows how long he'd been in there by himself, but it appeared that a Tengu Caller kept him from starving to death. Why a Tengu, much less a Tengu Caller, would bother helping a dragon is beyond reason as the two generally don't mix well (with Tengus misleading dragons and dragons fighting them and such).

Those who described the room in which he was found say that it was saturated with an inexplicable sadness that seeped from even the door itself. Old bones lay haphazardly around the entry way, and within the room was a burial mound, but no grave identification could be reliably used. Dust had settled on everything, even Than, as if those within this tomb-like place were frozen while time carried on around them. Oddly enough the music box was still playing inside despite not being wound and it immediately stopped upon the door being opened. They say it was eerie and unnatural and no sane dragon would stay in such a place.

Before the door was shut, this time for good, a few dragons took sketches and notes of a mural that had been painted on a far wall. Its paint was flaking and fading, but two dragons could be seen - one guarding the entrance from shapeless shadows and one sheltering inside. The shapeless shadows seemed to shift when one wasn't looking and appeared to be closing in on the door's guardian who, frighteningly enough, appeared to be more and more distressed every time the sketchers looked up from their work - his maw opening wider and wider in a silent scream as his assailants fell upon him. As for the one inside, it was clear that she was wounded and fatally so. In her grasp was a small egg crackling faintly with electricity. Her child, Than, they figure. She also seemed to move when nobody was looking - slowly drawing her egg closer even as her painting slowly faded, until the sketchers were mystified to see that she had become a pile of rocks as seen behind them. The last one to see the mural said that the shadows had engulfed the one outside, the mother turned into a burial mound, and the egg had cracks in it while a Tengu Caller descended upon it all...

Anyways, Than himself is a really nice dragon! He may be detached and a bit repulsive (not in appearance, but rather other dragons tend to gravitate away from him), but Than has his moments where he has shown genuine concern and distress for someone else. If someone he considers a 'friend' (or just not out to get him) gets hurt, he hovers nearby and watches to make sure nothing bad further happens to their 'friend'. Relationships are scary to him, so it takes awhile to build trust and to get Than to open up. While being impulsive is in his personality Than is usually careful about it to avoid hurting himself or others. Items may get swiped, a bite of food taken here and there, a word misplaced, and a minor hoarding problem may arise, but there is also random gift-giving and spurts of help or kindness, too!

Also, Than has a habit of humming while watching the night skies. It sounds eerily like the music box's tune, except that old music box hasn't played the tune since Than was found...
