Takomi | たこみ

Broken Kite
???

Takomi just appeared one day out of the blue, catching everyone's attention. She was clueless herself, wondering where she was; she didn't even remember her name. Dragons in the small village on Cloudsfall Isle tried their best to help her, she was so frail and helpless when she came, all the villagers felt sorry for her. Time passed and she never remembered her name, but she vaguely remembers that she had made a promise that she did not want to break, despite not recalling what it was about. So, the caretakers gave her a new name- Takomi.

Her name originates from the phrase お土産三つたこ三つ (Omiyage mitsu tako mitsu, meaning three presents; three kites), which came from an old song. Dragons teach their young this phrase as a 'spell' to keep promises, so young children are often found using this phrase when making promises.

Due to her true origins that she herself is not aware of, Takomi is actually just a fragment of herself, or rather, themselves. Takomi's soul had been scattered across the lands as different "Kite Dragons", each having a unique, different kind of personality. It is unknown how many of 'Takomi' is scattered.

Her original name in her past life was, coincidentally, also Takomi.

Nobody knows where these dragons originated from. The only thing anybody knows about them is that whenever some poor hatchling's kite flies away into the soaring crescendo, a broken kite dragon will appear a few days later with the kite's pattern on their wings. these dragons have undying loyalty to the dragon that "released" them, and often act as bodyguards or adoptive parents.

WIP BECAUSE I WROTE THIS AT LIKE 4am
This is a story, a tale; a legend, a myth. Something that's being passed on and on by dragons old and young for centuries. Nobody knows whether it is true or not, it is up to the listener to believe. The legend so magical and mysterious, that it even makes adults believe in such things. However, as time went on, people were slowly uninterested in stories due to difficulties caused by war and corruption, and so, the mythical tale was lost in the midst of hatred and disorder.

Luckily, very few dragons know of this tale, and continue to pass it on to their children; their children's children, and so on, until their descendants even after they were long gone.

The story began from a long time ago, rumours had it that it happened during the Third Age, or far earlier than that. A tale of a young dragon and its kite..

There was one little Wind dragon (called a Puff) that received a kite from its family. The kite was loved dearly, and was always taken out to be flown in the Windswept Plateau. As technology had not taken over that time, there was much space and vast fields to run on, the little Puff enjoyed spending its days padding its feet along the soft grass, trying to fly its beloved kite.

The Puff had a flightless older sibling (called a Whisper), who adored its younger sibling. Both dragons were often seen on the hills while flying the kite together. The Puff asked its sibling to teach it how to fly the kite properly, and they made it a promise.

Unfortunately, one day, a terrible accident happened as they were playing. The kite got caught in an upper wind, and it tugged hard enough to drag the Puff. In fright, the Whisper ordered its sibling to let go of the kite, but it was petrified.

Quickly and without thinking, the older sibling rushed to grab hold of the Puff as it was hanging on the cliff. The Whisper managed to hoist the sibling back up, but at the cost of its own life.

It fell off, pulling the kite with it.

The Whisper woke up hours later, only to find that the sun was down, and it was alone. It tried to find its way home. Long after it did, but to its horror, it was no longer alive. Its family could not see it, and they were grieving deeply over its death. However, only the Puff could as it was too young a dragon, but the parents did not believe what was seen, and forbade the Puff to ever speak of its deceased sibling ever again out of gloom.

Determined to keep its promise, the spirit of the older sibling continues to help and teach the Puff how to fly a kite. Eventually, it was no longer able to be seen by its sibling as the promise had been fulfilled.

No where to go, the spirit of the Whisper left, with a self promise to teach young dragons about flying kites.

Many years passed, the spirit still taught young dragons, but when it was accidentally caught in a typhoon, its soul was ripped like a broken kite and scattered across the lands.

It is said that after knowing the sad fate of such a devoted dragon, a mysterious Deity revived the Whisper from one of its scattered souls. With a renewed task of continuing the tradition of kite flying, and its personal quest on finding its lost soul fragments. it is then known as a Broken Kite due to the pattern on its wings.

The Broken Kite, sadly has little to no memories of who it used to be due to the scattered souls, but it still remembered a promise. A promise it held dearly.
